Why did Rainbow Six Siege shut down?
Ubisoft acknowledged an incident affecting Rainbow Six Siege on December 27, 2025. It later said the game and Marketplace had been intentionally shut down while its team focused on resolving the issue. The shutdown was a response to an incident affecting game systems and player accounts, rather than a scheduled maintenance announcement.
A Reddit incident-status compilation reproduced Ubisoft’s messages: “We’re aware of an incident currently affecting Rainbow Six Siege. Our teams are working on a resolution.” The follow-up said: “Update: Siege and the Marketplace have been intentionally shut down while the team focuses on resolving the issue.” These statements are reproduced by the compilation, rather than linked here to an original Ubisoft social post. Why did players receive free R6 Credits?
Incident coverage described players seeing unexpectedly large quantities of R6 Credits and Renown, as well as rare or developer-only cosmetics. Some reports described balances reaching billions of credits. Those are reported observations, not an official Ubisoft accounting of all affected accounts or a verified incident-wide total. The balances were not presented as a legitimate giveaway or ordinary promotion. Ubisoft has not publicly identified the technical cause in the statements covered by these reports, and the sources do not establish how access was obtained or who was responsible. Claims naming a specific vulnerability or attacker go beyond what is established here.
Was Rainbow Six Siege hacked?
Reports described unusual account activity, including unexpected currencies and cosmetics and accounts reportedly being banned or unbanned. That is why coverage and players raised the possibility of a hack. Ubisoft acknowledged an incident and took the game offline, but the reviewed official statements did not confirm a specific attack method, a data breach, or an attacker’s identity. The precise technical explanation therefore remains unconfirmed.

Did Ubisoft roll back the free credits?
Later reporting says Siege returned after the shutdown and describes Ubisoft rolling back incident-related activity as part of restoring the game. It does not establish a single final result for every individual account, so a general report of a rollback cannot guarantee what any one player retained. If your account still appears incorrect, check its current state in-game and consult Ubisoft Support for Rainbow Six Siege. Do not assume an unexpected balance shown during the incident was a permanent credit award.

Are Rainbow Six Siege servers back up?
Ubisoft’s service-status page displayed “No Issues” for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One in its October 5, 2026 update. That is a dated snapshot, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service now; check Ubisoft’s live Siege status page before troubleshooting a connection problem.

R6 Credits are premium currency that Ubisoft says can be purchased through the in-game Shop or Ubisoft Store and used for Operators, gear, weapons, and customizations. Renown is earned by playing modes and matches. The two appearing unexpectedly in incident reports does not mean they share the same normal source. For normal purchases, Ubisoft says completed R6 Credit transactions can take up to 24 hours to appear and recommends checking transaction history if credits are missing. That standard purchase guidance is separate from the unusual balances reported during the December 2025 incident.
