Ready or Not climbed to 15th on Steam’s global top-sellers list in reporting published July 3, 2025, even as its recent reviews turned Mixed after players objected to announced changes to gore, torture, and nudity. That rank is historical—not evidence that the game is a top seller today.
What happened with Ready or Not?
Ready or Not is a tactical first-person shooter developed and published by VOID Interactive. Steam describes it as a modern-day SWAT game, with single-player and online co-op modes. Its full release date was December 13, 2023. Steam’s store listing identifies the game and its features.
The controversy followed VOID’s announcement of changes to animations and depictions of gore, torture, and nudity ahead of the game’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launches. Players criticized the changes as censorship of the PC version, and the announcement was followed by a wave of negative reviews, according to GameXplore’s July 3, 2025 report.
That report attributed the rationale to console certification and changes to animation technology. It does not establish console requirements as the sole cause, so the changes are best understood as VOID’s announced adjustments amid the upcoming console releases—not as proof that a specific platform rule forced every change.

How did it become a Steam top seller amid the backlash?
GameXplore reported that Ready or Not ranked 15th on Steam’s global top-sellers list on July 3, 2025, while its recent reviews had become “Mixed.” The article also said the game’s active-player count doubled two days after the June 27 announcement. Those are dated claims from that report, not independently verified chart or player-count measurements.
The report noted a $24.99 sale price at the time. That was a historical promotional price, not a current price. The available evidence supports the contrast between backlash and strong sales at that moment; it does not show that negative reviews caused sales to rise or explain why buyers purchased the game.

Is Ready or Not still a Steam top seller?
The cited 15th-place position refers only to the July 3, 2025 reporting window. Steam’s sales rankings change, and the sources do not establish the game’s present rank. Steam continues to list the base game, DLC, and official MP3 soundtrack, but availability is not the same as a current top-seller position. Check the live Steam listing for current store and review information.
What changed in the game, and what did VOID say?
GameXplore described changes involving animations and depictions of gore, torture, and nudity. It quoted Alex, identified in the article only as the game’s lead technical artist, on a motion-capture shoot: “We recorded 5 different special forces actors in our last big mocap shoot, the goal was to introduce a more organic and natural look while trying to get away from the standard everyone looks and moves the same in video games.”

The same report attributed this comment to Alex: “Ultimately we consider this an okay compromise considering our gameplay design already dissuades use of lethal force anyway.” These comments offer the named developer’s explanation of the animation work and compromise; the source identifies Alex by first name and role only.
The July 2025 report describes the announcement and player response, but it does not establish the game’s present content on every platform. Steam’s listing and update history have since changed; the Steam update history records a v1.5 update dated September 3, 2026, including a Mission Editor changelog. Players comparing PC and console versions should consult the current platform listings and patch notes rather than assume the 2025 announcement fully describes what is available now.
