Rematch launched without crossplay because Sloclap ran into unforeseen technical complexities while building the feature for its first crossplay title. The studio also apologized for a separate mistake: it should have told players sooner that crossplay would miss launch. Crossplay later arrived with Patch 3 on September 5, 2025.
Why wasn’t crossplay available at launch?
In its June 19, 2025 update, “Rematch Launch – Priorities & Next Steps”, Sloclap acknowledged that players expected to play across platforms from day one. The studio said it had tried to include crossplay but encountered unforeseen technical complexities. Rematch was Sloclap’s first crossplay title.
Sloclap said it had a basic version working from a technical standpoint, but the feature was not ready for release. The remaining work included implementing interfaces, debugging and polishing, and completing console certification. The post did not identify a single defect or provide a detailed engineering postmortem, so it does not establish that server capacity, netcode, certification failure, or a specific platform incompatibility caused the delay.
What did Sloclap apologize for?
The studio’s apology focused on communication, not just the missed launch feature. Sloclap wrote: “We should have communicated as soon as it became apparent that crossplay wouldn’t be available at launch, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience and frustration it caused to some of our players.” The statement came from Sloclap’s official studio update; it did not name an individual speaker.

Were launch stability and matchmaking problems the cause?
Sloclap’s July update also discussed early stability, desynchronization, and matchmaking problems. Those were separate launch issues, not the explanation the studio gave for crossplay’s delay. The June post attributed the delay to unforeseen technical complexity without tying it to those reported symptoms.
What did crossplay include—and what did it not include?
In its September 5, 2025 update, Sloclap described crossplay as cross-platform matchmaking and social features, including inviting and playing with friends on other platforms. The same update said cross-platform progression was not planned at that time, so progress on one platform would not carry over to another. That is the studio’s stated position in September 2025; it does not establish whether the policy changed later.
