Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled for November 19, 2026, not May 26, 2026. Rockstar announced the May 2025 delay to give the game more time to meet its quality standards; Take-Two later announced a second date change, moving the planned launch to November 2026.
When is GTA 6 coming out?
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page and Take-Two’s latest announcement list November 19, 2026 as the planned release date. The announced launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; the sources do not establish a PC release date.
The May 26, 2026 date was an intermediate plan. Rockstar announced it in May 2025, when the game had been expected in Fall 2025. Take-Two then announced November 19, 2026 in its November 6, 2025 financial-results release. That later date supersedes the May 2026 date.
Why was GTA 6 delayed?
In its May 2, 2025 announcement, Rockstar said it needed more time to deliver the level of quality players expected and deserved: “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” Take-Two described the delay as giving Rockstar additional time to realize its creative vision.

Rockstar’s announcement did not identify a specific technical, production, or feature-related problem. Claims about a more detailed cause are not established by that statement. The later date announcement changed the planned launch date again but did not provide a different explanation for the original delay.

Take-Two named global retailers and the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Rockstar Games Store as purchase channels. Its announcement said eligible pre-orders and purchases before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack; digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+. Confirm current eligibility, cutoff, and terms with the retailer or store before ordering.
