Rovio Classics: Angry Birds was reported delisted from Google Play in 2023 because Rovio said the game was affecting its wider portfolio of games. That is the stated reason for this particular decision—not the same explanation Rovio gave for withdrawing older Angry Birds titles generally. Fans may call the paid re-release the best Angry Birds game, but that is a judgment about its appeal, not a verified ranking.
Which Angry Birds game was delisted?
The 2023 report concerned Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, a paid mobile re-release of the original game, and its listing on Google Play. It does not establish that Rovio removed the game from every app store or platform. Nor should this specific re-release be confused with the broader withdrawals of older Angry Birds games that Rovio discussed in 2021.
Calling it “the best” is a matter of taste. Players who favor the original’s straightforward slingshot gameplay may prefer it to newer entries, but the cited sources do not provide a ranking or prove that it is objectively better.
Why did Rovio remove it from Google Play?
For the 2023 delisting, Game Developer reported that Rovio had reviewed the business case and said the game’s impact on its wider games portfolio was the reason for unlisting it. The report also said Rovio pointed fans toward active games, including Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Journey. The explanation supports describing the decision as a portfolio or business choice; it does not disclose further motives. Game Developer’s 2023 report.

How is that different from Rovio’s explanation for older games?
In a 2021 open letter about older Angry Birds titles, Rovio cited a separate problem: many games had been built with old technology, engines and design, making it difficult to maintain their quality and meet changing platform requirements. Rovio wrote, “The thing is, maintaining the highest quality of updates and live operations isn’t possible with our older games, as so many of these games were built so long ago on older technology, using outdated game engines and design.” Rovio’s letter to fans, June 22, 2021.
That letter addressed the wider challenge of maintaining older games, not the specific portfolio rationale reported for the 2023 Google Play delisting. Treating the technical explanation as the confirmed reason for the later decision would conflate two different statements.

Can you still download or play the original?
The 2023 report said people who had already downloaded Rovio Classics: Angry Birds would retain access. That records Rovio’s reported position at the time; it is not a guarantee that the app can still be installed, restored to a new device, or run on every current operating system or account.
Availability may differ by store, country and download history. Rovio’s official Angry Birds games page lists Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, but a franchise page is not a storefront and does not confirm that a particular store currently offers it. The available sources do not establish current download status across regions and platforms.
