In a February 2026 statement, the then-Xbox president said it was the right time for her next step, personally and professionally, and said she would help Asha Sharma through the leadership transition. She also said the next Xbox console was “well underway.” Later Xbox statements kept future hardware in view but pointed to component costs and supply constraints; no release date or final specifications have been announced in the cited reporting.
What Sarah Bond said about leaving Microsoft
Microsoft announced Bond’s departure on February 20, 2026, as part of a leadership transition. Phil Spencer’s announcement said Bond had decided to leave to begin a new chapter and credited her with work on Xbox platform strategy, Game Pass, cloud gaming, hardware launches and other major moments for the business. Bond’s statement, reproduced by Pure Xbox two days later, gave her own explanation: “With that, I’ve decided this is the right time for me to take my next step, both personally and professionally.”
That is the extent of the specific reason she publicly offered in the statement. It does not establish a more particular personal or professional motive, nor whether she was pushed out or left solely by choice. Bond said she would remain as a special adviser to new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma to help ensure a smooth transition. She described her tenure as more than eight years and referred to the challenges of the Activision Blizzard acquisition period; those are her characterizations, not an independent account of the circumstances surrounding her departure.
What Bond said about the next Xbox
In her departure statement, Bond said: “PC and cloud gaming are growing faster than ever, our next console is well underway, and together we’ve helped lay the foundation for a more open gaming platform that spans devices and reaches players around the world.” Her wording confirms that Microsoft was progressing toward another console, but it does not supply a launch window or product details.

Bond had offered a broad description of the next generation in an October 2025 interview: “the next-gen console is gonna be a very premium, very high-end curated experience,” GameSpot reported. She did not disclose concrete technical details in that interview. “Premium,” “high-end” and “curated” are positioning language, not specifications, a price indication or proof of a particular architecture.
What later Xbox statements add
Microsoft said hardware remained part of the plan
In a June 10, 2026 Xbox Wire post, “Next 100 Days: XBOX Reset,” Asha Sharma and Matt Booty said Microsoft remained committed to Helix while dealing with higher component costs and constrained console supply. The post said Xbox could not make as many consoles as players wanted to buy. These are Microsoft’s own assessments, not independently audited market measurements. The company’s post also described its scale as more than 1 billion players per year and 72 billion hours across console, PC, mobile and streaming; it noted that the player figure excluded much of China and some other properties.

October reporting described a family of devices
On October 6, 2026, Windows Central reported on an internal Xbox town hall transcript shared with the publication and verified by trusted sources. According to the report, Sharma described Gen-10 as “a family of devices,” with a console at its center and options for people on the go. That is reporting about an internal meeting, not a formal product announcement or a released specification. The report does not establish a release date, price, final hardware specifications or detailed compatibility promises.
Microsoft’s June post also said storage-component prices were more than five times what Xbox paid two years earlier as it planned for the 2027 holiday season. The company said costs had first risen to more than twice the previous fall’s level, then doubled again, and forecast another significant increase. That figure concerns Xbox’s component costs and planning outlook—not a retail console price or a universal measure of the industry.

How to interpret the handheld references
The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is a PC handheld, not the next-generation Xbox console. Windows Central reported that it cannot run Xbox console games as a console would; its relevance is as an example of Xbox’s cross-device ambitions, not evidence of Gen-10 specifications or compatibility. An existing Xbox Series X is a current-generation console, while the ROG Xbox Ally is a portable PC gaming device. The cited reporting does not establish that either should be treated as a proxy for the next Xbox.
