In February 2023, a development error broke The Division 2’s build-generation system, Ubisoft said, leaving the team unable to produce updates. Engadget reported that the failure delayed the new season and prevented Ubisoft from extending the season already in progress. The available account does not establish the exact repair date or explain the underlying technical failure.
What broke—and what players experienced
Engadget’s February 10, 2023 report attributed the problem to Ubisoft’s explanation that a development error had broken the game’s build-generation system. That is a studio-side process for producing game builds, not evidence of a player’s PC hardware problem or a Ubisoft Connect download-setting issue. The report does not provide independent technical details about the error.
The immediate consequence was a production bottleneck: Ubisoft could not ship the delayed new season while it could not generate builds. Engadget also reported that the team could not extend the outgoing season until build functionality was repaired. In other words, the reported problem affected Ubisoft’s ability to prepare updates, rather than identifying a downloadable patch that players could repair on their own.
What Ubisoft reported about progress
Engadget said that a February 9 message from The Division 2 team described “good progress” toward a solution. That phrase is Engadget’s account of Ubisoft’s statement; the report does not establish a precise time when build generation was restored. Nor do the reviewed accounts explain the specific engineering change that fixed the problem.

Separate maintenance was not proof of a fix
Engadget also described unscheduled maintenance for other issues, including players’ inability to make seasonal in-game purchases. That maintenance should not be treated as confirmation that the build-generation failure had been fixed: the report does not connect the maintenance work to a restoration of the update pipeline.
What later official activity does—and does not—show
Ubisoft’s official news page lists The Division 2 announcements and updates in 2026. That confirms later official communication about the game, but it does not say when the 2023 build-generation problem was resolved or how Ubisoft corrected it. The February incident’s exact restoration date and technical fix are not established by these sources.

If your current Ubisoft Connect download is failing
A current Ubisoft Connect PC download error is a different issue from the 2023 development failure. Ubisoft’s general “Unable to start download” troubleshooting page recommends checking the internet connection and Ubisoft service maintenance, confirming available storage, running Ubisoft Connect PC with administrator rights, updating the desktop app, and reinstalling it if the problem continues. Those are general download troubleshooting steps; Ubisoft does not present them as a way to repair the historical build-generation failure.
