Why did Rockstar delay GTA 6?
Rockstar’s stated reason was to give the team more time to complete and polish the game. In its November 6, 2025 announcement, the company wrote: “These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

That is the public explanation. The announcement does not identify a more specific internal cause, such as a particular development problem, and speculation about one should not be treated as confirmed.
What is the new GTA 6 release date?
Rockstar announced Thursday, November 19, 2026, as the new release date. The date immediately before the change was May 26, 2026. Before that, the game had been announced for Fall 2025, so the November 2025 announcement was a further shift in its schedule.

As of October 8, 2026, Rockstar’s official game page and Take-Two’s official materials still list November 19, 2026. Release dates can change, so check those sources for the latest announcement.
Which platforms are announced, and is there a PC date?
Rockstar and Take-Two list PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as launch platforms. The cited official materials do not announce a PC version or PC release date. That means there is no confirmed PC launch date to report; it does not establish whether a PC version might be announced later.

What should buyers know before pre-ordering?
Editions and announced US prices
In its June 24, 2026 announcement, Take-Two listed US prices of $79.99 for Standard Edition and $99.99 for Ultimate Edition. Those are the publisher’s dated US announced prices, not guaranteed prices for other regions or a statement of what every retailer currently charges.
Rockstar Support lists Standard and Ultimate editions. It also says Standard Edition owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally after redeeming their Standard Edition code.

Preloading and boxed copies
Digital pre-orders could preload beginning November 12, 2026, according to Take-Two’s announcement and Rockstar Support. Rockstar Support also says a physical version is available, but the box contains a download code rather than a game disc. A boxed copy is therefore not a disc-based version.
