If Activision keeps refusing your sign-in, the fix depends on which message you see and which kinds of access you still have: the account password, the email tied to the Activision account, a two-factor (2FA) method, or a platform login already linked to the account. Work through the stages below in order. Each one tells you whether to retry something yourself or move to an official Activision support route.
Start with the exact message you see
The error text narrows the cause more than anything else. Activision’s support pages treat these as different problems, so do not handle them as one generic “login error.”
“Invalid Email and Password Combination”
This message means Activision did not accept the email and password pair you entered. The Activision account uses its own email address for sign-in, and that address may not be the one you used to create a PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or other platform account. Before assuming anything is broken on Activision’s side, check these points:
- Try each email address you might have used when creating the account, not only the one your console or launcher shows.
- Re-enter the password carefully, checking caps lock and any password manager autofill that may have filled an older password.
- If you are not sure the password is right, use the password reset flow described below rather than repeating guesses.
Credentials look correct, but the login still fails
When you are certain the email and password are right and the sign-in still does not go through, Activision’s own troubleshooting suggests two browser-level steps:

- Open the login page in a different browser.
- If the other browser also fails, clear the cache and cookies of the browser you first used, then sign in again.
These are general troubleshooting steps Activision recommends, not a guaranteed fix. If they do not work, the problem is usually tied to the account rather than the browser, and the sections below apply.
Reset a forgotten password
If you do not remember the password, start the password reset from the Activision sign-in page. The reset email is sent to the address on the Activision account, and the reset link expires after 24 hours (per Activision’s account-management guidance, updated September 28, 2026). If the link has expired, request a new one.
“I didn’t get a password reset email”
Confirm you are requesting the reset for the exact address on the Activision account, not a platform email. Check your spam or junk folder, and allow a short wait before requesting another link, since repeated requests can make the inbox harder to read. If no email ever arrives for an address you still control, the account email may be different from what you expect, and the platform-login route below may help.

When the password works but the 2FA code does not
Two-factor authentication is a second step that appears after you enter the account email and password. It is a separate problem from a wrong password, so a 2FA failure does not mean your credentials are wrong.
Activision’s 2FA FAQ (updated August 18, 2026) lists three methods:
- Authenticator app, which generates codes on a 30-second refresh cycle.
- SMS to the mobile number registered to the account.
- Email to the address on the account.
If you have more than one method enabled, you may be able to pick another enabled method from the sign-in screen instead of using the one that is failing. Check the time on your authenticator device if codes keep being rejected, because code generation depends on an accurate clock.

Lost, broken, or replaced phone
Activision provides ten backup codes when you set up 2FA. Each code works once. Backup codes are meant for the case where you cannot reach your authenticator, such as after losing, breaking, or replacing the device. If you saved them, use one to sign in and then re-enroll your authenticator.
If you have no backup codes and a new device cannot restore your authenticator data, Activision’s guidance says to sign in with another enabled method and reset 2FA from there. If no other method is enabled, you will need the account-email or support route described below. Do not buy a separate authenticator device to solve this. Activision’s documented procedures rely on the app-based codes and account steps, not on extra hardware.

When you cannot reach the account email
A password reset depends on the link arriving at the account email. If you no longer have access to that address, Activision says to contact its support team directly. Account email changes can be restricted for privacy and security reasons, so support may not be able to change the address in every case. Do not rely on a promise that the email can be swapped.
Use a linked platform login if it still works
Activision accounts can be linked to a platform account from Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Blizzard/Battle.net, Nintendo, or Ubisoft. Availability of these links may vary with the current account interface. If one of these linked logins still works, you can sign in through that platform and then reach the Activision profile to update the password or email. Keep these limits in mind:
- An Activision account generally holds one linked account per provider.
- Unlinking is restricted. It can be done only once in a 12-month period, and security restrictions can block it.
When you suspect someone else has access
Treat an unrecognized login attempt notification or an unknown linked platform account as a security issue, not a simple sign-in glitch.

- Change the Activision password immediately after an unrecognized login notification.
- If an unknown platform account is linked, sign in, unlink that account, and update your password.
- If the suspicious activity continues, submit a Hacked Account Recovery request through Activision’s support site.
What Hacked Account Recovery involves
If you cannot sign in at all, Activision’s recovery page says you may need a temporary Activision account. The recovery process has specific requirements:
- You must link a platform account that was previously linked to the hacked Activision account. Linking an account that was never connected does not qualify.
- Use a real, verifiable email address. Disposable or unverifiable email addresses are not accepted.
- The temporary account cannot be used after recovery, and purchases and progress do not transfer to your main account. Activision specifically cautions against making in-game purchases on the temporary account.
- Activision lists processing of up to two days. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed timeline.
If Activision determines the account was not hacked, the request is closed and you are directed to the appropriate account support path. Use this route only for suspected compromise, not for a forgotten password or a 2FA problem.

Mistakes that make recovery harder
- Creating a second Activision account to get around the lockout. Cross-progression in supported games is tied to the Activision account, so a new account can separate you from your progress and content.
- Linking a platform account you do not recognize to the Activision account as a workaround. Linking is what makes unknown access possible in the first place.
- Sharing your password or 2FA codes with anyone who offers to restore access, including people claiming to be support. Activision’s support routes do not require you to send these to a third party.

Without your exact error message, and without knowing whether you can reach your account email, your 2FA methods, or a linked platform login, no article can pinpoint the cause for your account.
