Start by opening the Clash of Clans listing in the store where you installed it. Check whether the store offers an update and whether the game is available for your device. An unsupported device or operating system, a store or account issue, a network problem, or a temporary service outage can all prevent an update; without your device details and the exact error, there is no single cause to assume.
First, check the game’s store listing
Search for Clash of Clans directly in Google Play on Android or the App Store on iPhone and iPad. This shows whether an update is offered and whether the game is available for your device. Google says that if an app’s Play Store page marks it unavailable for your device, you cannot download it: Google Play Help: Fix problems downloading apps.

- The store shows Update: Continue with the steps for your platform below.
- The store shows Open: The store is not currently offering an update for your device. Check compatibility and retry later if you expected a new release.
- The game is unavailable or does not appear: Check device and operating-system compatibility before trying other download fixes.
Check whether your device is supported
Supercell’s support notice says that after its “next update,” Clash of Clans will no longer be supported on Amazon devices, Android versions below 7, or iOS versions below 15. It advises affected players to link their game to Supercell ID so they can retain progress when moving to a supported device. Because the notice frames the change relative to an upcoming update, check Supercell’s compatibility notice for its current wording; do not assume an update problem means your device must be replaced.
Android: troubleshoot Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store and search for Clash of Clans. Check the listing’s availability message and tap Update if that option appears.
- Check the connection, restart, and date and time. Google recommends basic download checks such as verifying the internet connection, restarting the device, and checking its date and time. See Google Play’s app-download troubleshooting.
- If only Clash of Clans is affected, use the app-specific steps. Google’s guidance includes uninstalling and reinstalling the app and, if needed, uninstalling and reinstalling Google Play Store updates. Before reinstalling the game, make sure your progress is recoverable—ideally, link the account to Supercell ID. Reinstallation is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed fix.
- Escalate if the problem remains. Use the contact options in Google Play Help or contact Supercell Clash of Clans Support.
iPhone or iPad: troubleshoot the App Store
- Check for a manual update. Open the App Store, tap your account or photo control, open App Updates, and tap Update beside Clash of Clans if it is listed. Apple says apps update automatically by default, but can be updated manually when there is an issue: Apple Support: How to manually update apps.
- If the download is stuck, try Apple’s suggested fixes. Prioritize the stalled download from the Home Screen, check whether a valid payment method or billing verification is required, then restart the device if needed. If it still fails, contact Apple Support.
- If the App Store cannot connect, check service and network access. Review Apple System Status, confirm the internet works, try another network, and check that date and time are correct. Apple’s App Store connection guidance covers these checks.
Match the fix to where the update fails

What to include when asking for help
If store troubleshooting does not resolve it, tell support whether you use Android or iPhone/iPad, your device and operating-system version, whether the store shows Update, Open, or unavailable, where the process stops, and the exact error message. Those details help distinguish compatibility, store or account problems, connection failures, and installation errors.
