Why Won’t My Eevee Evolve into Sylveon in Pokémon GO?

To evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokémon GO, set that specific Eevee as your Buddy and earn 70 hearts with it. Hearts count only while that Eevee is your Buddy, and they accumulate across activity types, so the evolution stays locked until the total reaches 70. If it still won’t evolve, work through the checks below in order.

What Sylveon requires

Sylveon has no separate evolution method. The standard route is Buddy-heart progress. Niantic’s Help Center explains that some Pokémon need a specific task before they can evolve, and for Sylveon that task is earning hearts with the Eevee you intend to evolve. The 70-heart figure comes from the 2026 Precious Pals event announcement by The Pokémon Company International and Pokémon GO, which labels 70 hearts as the normal requirement.

Troubleshooting in order

  1. Confirm the right Eevee is your Buddy. The requirement is tied to the Buddy Pokémon you adventure with. If you have more than one Eevee, the one you want to evolve must be the current Buddy. Hearts earned while a different Eevee was your Buddy do not count toward this one.
  2. Open that Pokémon’s details page. Niantic says that when an evolution task is required, its details appear on that Pokémon’s details page, and tasks differ by species. This is where you can see whether the task is still incomplete.
  3. Read heart progress on the Buddy Profile. Open the Buddy Profile screen and look under “Today’s Activities.” Gray hearts mark activities that can still award hearts. Pink hearts mark hearts already earned. When every heart in a category is pink, that category has reached its cap for the day.
  4. Work around daily limits. Hearts are limited by a total daily cap and by a separate cap for each activity category. The timer resets at midnight local time. If one category is capped, earn hearts through another category that still shows gray hearts, or wait for the reset.
  5. Keep adding hearts across categories. Maxing one category does not finish the evolution task, because progress is cumulative toward the 70 total. Use the activities listed below. Once the total reaches 70, check the Pokémon’s summary for the available evolution.

Activities that earn Buddy hearts

  • Feeding
  • Walking together
  • Playing
  • Battling
  • Taking a snapshot
  • Visiting a new place
  • Following a Route

An Excited mood increases the number of hearts possible for that day. A Poffin is an optional in-game treat that official Buddy guidance mentions. It can affect mood and hearts, but using one does not replace the 70-heart requirement.

The Precious Pals 20-heart exception has ended

During the Precious Pals event, Sylveon could evolve after 20 hearts. The official notice said the requirement would return to the normal 70 after Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time. That exception is no longer in effect. An Eevee that stalled at 20 hearts needs to reach 70 under the standard requirement.
