The Mods folder belongs in The Sims 4 user-data folder, not in the folder where the game program is installed. On PC and Mac, check Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. If the folder is missing, EA says you can create it there. If the path is absent or the game ignores it, the likely issue is that you are checking the wrong Documents location or the user folder has not been generated yet.
Why the game installation has no Mods folder
“Installation” can mean either the game program or the files The Sims 4 keeps for your player profile. Mods go in the user-data folder under Documents, not alongside the installed game files. That is why finding the game on another drive—or seeing its program files—does not tell you where Mods belongs. EA’s mod installation instructions point players to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and say, “If there isn’t a Mods folder here, you can create one.”

Find or create the correct Mods folder
- Open
Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. - If
Modsis already there, put your mod files in that folder. - If it is missing, create a folder named exactly
ModsinsideThe Sims 4. Do not create it in the game’s installation folder.
If you cannot find the The Sims 4 folder at all, launch the game once, then check Documents again. An EA Forums support response describes the user folder being generated after the game’s first launch; this is troubleshooting guidance, not a guarantee that every missing folder has the same cause.
Check which Documents folder the game uses
On Windows, OneDrive can redirect or sync Documents; on Mac, iCloud can do the same. You may be looking at a Documents folder that is not the active location for The Sims 4. EA Forums support examples describe this kind of path mismatch, including a OneDrive-related case. Compare the full path where you placed Mods with the active Sims 4 user folder, rather than assuming cloud sync itself prevents mods from working.

- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
The same distinction applies if you installed the game on an external drive: the game’s program location and the user folder are separate. A Mac support thread discusses the user folder under Documents, rather than treating the game’s install drive as the Mods location.
What to check if Mods exists but content does not appear
Enable custom content and mods
In the game, open Game Options > Other, check Enable Custom Content and Mods, and relaunch the game. EA’s installation guide includes this setting as part of enabling mods.

Extract downloaded archives
If a download ends in .zip, .rar, or .7z, extract it before putting the contents in Mods. An EA Forums guide covers this step. It can explain why content is unavailable when the folder exists, but it does not explain why the folder itself is missing.
Which platforms support Sims 4 mods?
EA’s mod-installation guidance covers PC and Mac. Mods cannot be downloaded on PlayStation or Xbox, so the PC/Mac folder instructions do not apply to those console versions.
