As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar has not confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will let players customize radio stations, add personal music, or skip individual songs. The official announcement names six stations and promises the series’ broadest radio and podcast selection, but it does not describe player controls. GTA V’s PC Self Radio is useful precedent—not proof that the same feature will appear in GTA VI.
The current answer: GTA VI radio controls are still unconfirmed
If you are deciding whether GTA VI will let you build a custom station or jump past a song, the accurate answer is “not announced.” Rockstar’s October 8, 2026 music announcement discusses the game’s stations, genres, podcasts and soundtrack plans, but it does not mention playlist editing, user-provided music, a next-track button or any other song-skipping control.

That leaves three separate questions unresolved:
- Whether players can skip the currently playing song.
- Whether they can rearrange, remove or favorite tracks within a station.
- Whether they can import music from outside the game or create a personal station.
None of those functions should be treated as a launch feature until Rockstar documents them. The absence of a statement is not a confirmation that the controls will be missing; it means the available announcement does not establish either outcome.

Rockstar has previewed six hand-picked GTA VI stations:
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
| Station | What is established |
|---|---|
| Cocotea | Named in Rockstar’s official music preview; additional programming details were not stated in that announcement. |
| Back Country | Named in the official preview; a complete track list was not provided. |
| Afro Bank FM | Named in the official preview; the announcement does not describe player controls. |
| The Chamber | Named in the official preview; the full station lineup remains undisclosed. |
| Flash FM | Named in the official preview; no skipping or customization behavior is specified. |
| Dirty South Classics | Named in the official preview; no complete playlist or control scheme is stated. |
The same page says the game spans formats from classic rock to talk radio and calls GTA VI’s offering the “biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.” That is Rockstar’s description of scope, not a numerical count of stations or songs. The six names are therefore a preview, not necessarily the complete lineup.
“Spanning stations dedicated to everything from Classic Rock to Talk Radio, Grand Theft Auto VI features the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.”

What “customize” and “skip” would mean in practice
Skipping a song
Song skipping is the narrowest request: press a button or select a menu command to move to the next track. It can be limited by context. A game might allow next-track controls during ordinary music playback while disabling them during a DJ segment, scripted mission sequence or talk-radio program.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Customizing a station
Customization can describe several different systems, and they are not interchangeable:
- Track controls: marking songs as favorites, hiding tracks or forcing a replay.
- Playlist editing: selecting which licensed songs remain in a station.
- Station creation: combining tracks from several in-game stations into a personal channel.
- External music: importing files stored on a PC or another device.
Rockstar’s announcement does not identify any of these systems for GTA VI. A future update could document one without promising the others, so “custom radio” should not be used as a catch-all assumption.
What GTA V on PC can do
GTA V and GTA Online on PC provide the clearest Rockstar-documented comparison. Rockstar Support explains that players can place supported, non-DRM local music files in the game’s User Music folder and configure Self Radio. The supported formats listed in that guide are MP3, WMA and M4A.
Self Radio has three relevant behaviors:
| GTA V Self Radio mode | Local music | Can skip tracks? | Radio presentation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sequential | Yes, using files in the User Music folder | Yes | Plays the collection in sequence rather than presenting a conventional DJ station |
| Shuffle | Yes, using files in the User Music folder | Yes | Randomizes the collection |
| Radio | Yes, using files in the User Music folder | No | Adds radio adverts and DJ banter while playing tracks randomly |
The distinction matters. “GTA V lets you skip songs” is accurate only when it refers to Self Radio’s Sequential or Shuffle modes on PC. Radio mode deliberately behaves more like a broadcast station and does not permit skipping. This guide applies to GTA V and GTA Online on PC; it is not documentation for console versions and is not a GTA VI feature announcement.
Why this precedent is useful but limited
The GTA V system demonstrates that Rockstar has previously supported personal music, multiple playback modes and mode-specific skip behavior. It makes similar functionality technically plausible, but it does not establish that GTA VI will include it. A new game can change its audio architecture, licensing arrangements, user-interface design or platform support.

Why GTA V does not confirm a GTA VI feature
Several boundaries prevent a direct transfer of the older feature:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Different game: Self Radio is documented for GTA V and GTA Online, not for the unreleased GTA VI.
- Different platform scope: The published instructions concern PC file access. GTA VI is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, where games generally cannot browse a user’s local music folders in the same way a PC title can.
- Different release cycle: GTA VI’s audio systems and menus may have been redesigned after GTA V.
- Different licensing obligations: Imported or user-selected music can affect content moderation, streaming rights and regional availability.
These factors explain why a familiar feature can be plausible without being confirmed. They also mean that a PC version, if announced later, should not automatically be assumed to reproduce GTA V’s User Music workflow.
What to look for in an eventual official confirmation
A reliable answer will come from Rockstar’s own game guide, support documentation, launch notes or an in-game settings screen. Look for specific language rather than broad statements about a large soundtrack.
Evidence that skipping is supported
- A control mapping that names “Next Track,” “Skip Song” or an equivalent command.
- An audio setting that distinguishes music playback from DJ or talk segments.
- Support instructions describing what happens when the player changes stations or presses the next-track control.
Evidence that customization is supported
- A station editor, playlist management screen or hide/favorite control.
- Documented support for importing files, including platform, format and storage requirements.
- A clear statement about whether custom selections work in story mode, online play or both.
If an announcement only lists artists, stations or podcasts, it confirms programming—not player control. If it advertises an album on vinyl or CD, it confirms a physical soundtrack product—not an in-game import feature.
Release date and platforms
Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 publisher announcement lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an announced release date of November 19, 2026. It also says a physical edition will be sold through retailers worldwide.

- Edition Includes: 40th Caper, "Where in the World?"; Cosmetic skins: Classic & Motorcycle oufit; Digital Official Soundtrack & Artbook; Map; & Stickers - unlockable thru gameplay
- Dive back into the iconic world of Carmen Sandiego, reimagined for a new era
- For the first time in history you get to play as Carmen Sandiego
- Use State-of-the-Art Gadgets – Glide, swing, and spy with Carmen’s high-tech gear
- Track suspects, collect clues, decipher codes, & solve puzzles & capers
That platform information matters when evaluating radio expectations. The GTA V comparison is specifically a PC workflow, while the announced GTA VI versions are console releases. Do not buy a console edition on the assumption that it includes PC-style local-file support; no such feature has been announced.

When the game is available, use this sequence to verify the behavior without relying on rumors:
- Open the game’s audio or controller settings and record every command labeled for music, radio or next track.
- Enter free roam and switch between several stations, noting whether a next-track command appears separately from station switching.
- Test a music station and a talk or podcast station. Controls may differ between songs, DJ links and spoken programming.
- Check whether the pause menu or radio wheel offers favorites, hidden tracks or playlist editing.
- Read the official support article for your platform before attempting to add files. Confirm the permitted formats, storage location, account mode and whether online play is supported.
- Compare the observed behavior with Rockstar’s written instructions, since launch patches can change menus or add accessibility and playback options.
Do not treat a third-party video showing a modified game, a PC mod or a leaked menu as proof of the retail console feature. Those examples can demonstrate a possibility while still being outside the supported product.
Common misunderstandings
“Six announced stations means there are only six.”
No. Rockstar has named six stations in its preview, but the announcement describes them as a selection and does not publish a complete station count.
“The album has 34 tracks, so GTA VI has 34 in-game songs.”
No. The 34-track figure on the music page refers to Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. It is not a count of in-game radio tracks or stations.

“GTA V Self Radio proves the console versions will import music.”
No. The documented Self Radio process is for GTA V and GTA Online on PC. It should not be presented as evidence about GTA VI’s console editions.
“A soundtrack pre-order includes custom radio controls.”
No. Vinyl and CD pre-orders are physical music products. They do not grant a documented in-game station editor or song-skipping function.
Bottom line for prospective players
GTA VI’s radio and podcast lineup is clearly a major part of the game’s presentation, and Rockstar has previewed six stations while promising its broadest selection yet. The specific controls many players want—skipping songs, editing station playlists and importing personal music—remain undocumented as of October 13, 2026.
