There is no confirmed answer yet. As of October 5, 2026, Sony and Rockstar list Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5, but neither says whether it will run on a jailbroken console or specifies a minimum system-software version. “May not run” is a possibility—not a verified failure. The announced release date is November 19, 2026, so the compatibility question remains open ahead of launch.
What Sony and Rockstar have confirmed
PlayStation lists GTA VI for PS5 and PS5 Pro, and says the game will not be available for PS4. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both official game pages give November 19, 2026, as the release date. These platform listings identify supported console families; they do not establish support for modified system software. Why jailbreak compatibility is unknown
A jailbreak changes a console’s software state, while the official platform listings describe PS5 consoles without explaining how the game handles modified firmware. The sources reviewed do not specify a minimum firmware version, say whether a newer system update will be necessary, or state whether game or platform checks will reject a modified environment. Without those details, neither “it will work” nor “it will fail” is established.
Sony recommends keeping PS5 system software up to date in its general PS5 Safety Guide, noting that updates can provide additional features, improved usability, and enhanced security. That general recommendation is not a GTA VI requirement and does not identify a required version.

Choose based on what matters most to you
| Priority | What it means now | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the jailbreak | Retain the console’s current software state, accepting that GTA VI compatibility is unconfirmed. | Wait for an official firmware requirement or compatibility statement. The sources reviewed do not establish what updating would do to any particular exploit. |
| Prioritize access to the game | Use a console and system state that meet Sony and Rockstar’s eventual requirements. | Check the official game and support information for a published requirement before deciding whether an update is needed. |
There is no evidence here to justify a specific update, firmware number, or model-specific instruction. If preserving the jailbreak is important, avoid treating an unverified claim as a reason to make an irreversible system-software change. If playing at launch matters more, wait for official requirements rather than assuming the current setup will be accepted.
Does single-player mean it will work offline?
PlayStation describes GTA VI as a single-player experience. Its listing also says some features, content, services, or functions may require an internet connection, Rockstar Games account registration, fees, or gameplay unlocking, and may be changed or terminated. The listing warns that violating the Terms of Service may restrict or terminate access to the game or an online account. These general notices do not say whether activation, installation, or a particular feature will work offline on a jailbroken PS5. PlayStation Store listing and legal information

What PlayStation means by “plays best on PS5”
In a June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement, Mary Yee, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, said GTA VI “will play best on PS5,” citing DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the PS5 SSD. That is PlayStation’s description of the PS5 experience, not an independent benchmark or a comparison between stock and jailbroken systems. PlayStation Blog announcement

What to look for before changing your console
- A published minimum system-software version for GTA VI.
- An official statement from Sony or Rockstar on jailbroken or modified PS5 compatibility.
- Clarification about any update, activation, account, or online requirement that matters to your intended use.
- The date and source of any compatibility claim: a general PS5 platform listing does not answer the modified-console question.
