Yes—Eric Barone has said Haunted Chocolatier will include relationships like those in Stardew Valley. But he also said he had not decided exactly how the system would work. Marriage, romanceable characters and specific dating mechanics have not been confirmed in the official materials reviewed.

In a December 30, 2021 report, ComicBook.com quoted Barone answering a question about dating: “Yes, there will be relationships like in Stardew Valley.” He immediately added: “I haven’t decided exactly how the system will work, yet. And I expect to approach some things differently this time around.” Read the report quoting Barone.

What is not confirmed
The official Haunted Chocolatier FAQ describes the game and its development status but does not detail romance. The official materials reviewed do not confirm:

- Which characters, if any, are romanceable.
- How dating or relationship progression will work.
- Whether romance will be optional or how it will differ from Stardew Valley.
Because the relationship statement is from 2021 and the game is still in development, its eventual mechanics may differ from what Barone had in mind then. No later romance-specific revision is established by the official updates reviewed.
How relationships fit the game
The FAQ describes Haunted Chocolatier as an action RPG and “town game”: the player moves to a new town, gets to know its residents and runs a chocolate shop in a haunted castle. Barone has said the game shares some similarities with Stardew Valley while differing in its core gameplay and theme. That setting makes relationships part of the game’s stated direction, but it does not reveal their precise role or mechanics.

Development and release status
In an official January 2026 development update, Barone said the game remained in development and that he would not commit to a release date; it would come out when it was done. His 2025 official posts discussed development and chocolate-making design rather than romance. A PC Gamer report dated August 31, 2026 quoted Barone describing progress, but did not provide a release date or a relationship-system update: PC Gamer’s report.
