The official Activision material on BO3 PC that could be located is dated 2019 or carries no date, and none of it says whether the game’s known exploits are currently open or closed. The most specific warning comes from the maintainer of T7Patch, a community patch, who says the unpatched game still has dangerous exploits, including remote code execution (RCE). That maintainer’s strongest recommendation for protection applies to public matchmaking. Nothing here shows that you will be hacked, and nothing shows that the risk is zero.
What Activision’s official documents do and do not say
Three official documents are relevant. None of them answers the question of whether BO3 on PC is currently safe from remote attacks, and reading them as a safety assurance would be a mistake.

The enforcement policy’s core message is about player conduct. Its exploit clause reads: “Any user who abuses an exploit in game code or other established rule of play is subject to penalty.” That sentence tells you what Activision will punish. It does not tell you whether an attacker can reach your machine through a lobby.

What the T7Patch maintainer claims
T7Patch is a community patch that the repository describes as addressing a large list of BO3 exploits. Everything in this section is a statement by its maintainer, listed in the project credits as Serious. None of it has been confirmed by Activision, and none of it has been independently measured.
Unpatched exploits and remote code execution
The maintainer states: “The game does still have dangerous exploits when unpatched.” He also says the patch fixes the RCE vulnerabilities discussed in the project’s materials. RCE is a serious category because, under the conditions of a particular exploit, it can allow code to run on a target machine across a network. The maintainer does not say how often players are targeted, whether every listed path still works against current builds, or how likely an ordinary player is to be affected.

Network passwords and matchmaking
According to the repository, a network password gives the best protection when you play outside matchmaking. Everyone who wants to join the session must use the same password. To return to normal matchmaking, you clear the password. The repository also recommends using a community patch or client for PC.
Solo and offline play
The repository’s FAQ says solo offline play may not require the patch under ordinary circumstances. It immediately qualifies that answer: Steam networking is complicated, and high-profile players are advised to run the patch regardless. The FAQ also says that without a network password, players remain vulnerable to certain crash exploits. These are maintainer statements, so treat offline play as lower exposure rather than as a guarantee.

Download caution and antivirus warnings
The repository warns that some alternative multiplayer-focused patches may not address known RCE exploits. It also says antivirus products can flag T7Patch because some of its techniques resemble malware. A flag like that does not prove a threat, and an absence of flags does not prove safety. Activision has not said whether the tool is consistent with its third-party software enforcement policy, so the policy’s penalties and the patch’s status are separate questions.

- Account compromise. Someone gains control of your game or platform account. Nothing reviewed establishes how common this is for BO3 PC players.
- Crashes or disruption. The game freezes, disconnects, or is interfered with. The T7Patch maintainer says players without a network password remain exposed to certain crash exploits.
- Arbitrary code execution. An attacker runs code on your computer. This is the RCE category the maintainer describes. It is the most serious outcome, and no source establishes how often it occurs.
The available evidence does not show that these outcomes are equally likely, and it does not put a rate on any of them.
Comparing play scenarios
The main variable is who can reach your session. The table below uses the maintainer’s own framing. The right-hand column shows what is and is not established for each option.

No numeric risk estimate exists for any of these options in the material available. The comparison shows relative exposure as described by the maintainer, not measured probability.

What to do now
- Install current Windows security and feature updates through Settings > Windows Update. Activision’s 2019 troubleshooting guidance recommends this as general system hygiene. It does not address BO3 exploits specifically.
- If you are uncertain, avoid public matchmaking until you have decided how much exposure you accept. Playing with known friends in a session you control reduces the number of unknown people who can reach you.
- If you consider T7Patch, obtain it only from the project’s repository. Verify the project and the files before running them, and remember that its security and compatibility claims come from its maintainer, not from Activision.
- Expect that antivirus software may flag the patch. Do not treat a flag as proof that the tool is malicious, and do not treat a clean scan as proof that it is safe.
- Be skeptical of any other download that promises to close BO3 exploits. Several multiplayer-focused alternatives may not address the known RCE paths, according to the repository.
How to report a problem
- Suspected game vulnerability: submit a security report through Activision’s security reporting form. Include a description of the vulnerability, reproduction steps, and an impact analysis. The form lists Steam and Xbox PC as platform choices.
- Suspected cheater: use the in-game Report Player option. This is a separate route from vulnerability reporting.
