No. Pokémon Bank continued working after Nintendo ended 3DS eShop sales in March 2023, and it remained available after most 3DS online services ended in April 2024. But it is not permanent: Nintendo and The Pokémon Company say Bank and Bank-to-Pokémon HOME transfers will end on February 26, 2027, at 12:00 Japan time (February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST in Nintendo’s Americas notice). New downloads are no longer available. If you have Pokémon in Bank that you want to keep, move them to Pokémon HOME before the deadline.

Did the 3DS eShop closure shut down Pokémon Bank?

No. The eShop sales closure and Bank’s service ending are separate events. Nintendo stopped selling 3DS eShop software and add-on content on March 28, 2023. Pokémon Bank continued for people who had already downloaded the app, but the app could no longer be newly downloaded. Nintendo’s notice said updates and redownloads of previously purchased software remained available at the time; it did not promise that redownloads would remain available indefinitely. Nintendo’s eShop closure notice and The Pokémon Company’s Bank notice distinguish the closure from Bank’s service.

When does Pokémon Bank shut down?

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon Bank service ends on February 26, 2027, at 12:00 Japan time. Nintendo Support’s Americas notice lists the cutoff as Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. These are the same overnight deadline expressed in different time zones. Bank-to-HOME transfers end on that date as well, so complete any transfer before the service cutoff. See the joint Bank service notice and Nintendo Americas’ end-of-service notice.

Why did Bank keep working after other 3DS services ended?

Nintendo ended general 3DS and Wii U online play and related online functionality on April 8, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. PDT. It named Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter as exceptions that would continue “for the time being,” while warning that they could also end later. That exception was not a promise of permanent service. Nintendo’s online-services discontinuation notice explains the distinction.

Can you download Pokémon Bank now?

No. Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter are no longer available for new downloads. Nintendo’s current transfer guide says Bank must have been downloaded before March 27, 2023. Buying or borrowing a 3DS-family system now does not restore access to an app that was never downloaded to an eligible system. The hardware route is relevant only if you can access a system with Bank already installed (and Poké Transporter too, if your transfer requires it). Check Nintendo’s transfer requirements before making plans.

How do you move Pokémon from Bank to Pokémon HOME?

Bank-to-HOME transfers are one-way: Pokémon moved into HOME cannot be moved back to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS titles. Pokémon HOME Premium is required for this transfer; Bank’s former free-use period does not make the HOME transfer free. Nintendo’s transfer guide and Bank notice set out the requirements.

  1. Confirm that you can use a Nintendo 3DS-family system with Pokémon Bank installed. If you need Poké Transporter for your transfer route, confirm that it is installed too.
  2. Set up the Pokémon HOME account you want to receive the Pokémon, and make sure that account has a HOME Premium Plan.
  3. Review which Pokémon you intend to move and whether they can be used in the games you care about. The transfer cannot be undone back to Bank.
  4. Follow Nintendo’s current Bank-to-HOME instructions and complete the transfer before Bank’s announced end of service.

What if your Pokémon Bank pass expired?

Pokémon Support says an expired pass does not necessarily prevent access to stored Pokémon for a Bank-to-HOME move. If you already have the app and a usable 3DS-family system, launch Bank, decline the prompt to purchase another pass, and follow the on-screen flow to access the boxes. This does not remove the HOME Premium requirement for transferring. See Pokémon Support’s expired-pass instructions.
