On Steam, though, the multiplayer setting you choose decides whether you can match with players on other platforms, so that setting matters more than the store label. The sections below cover what each listing says, how to set up Steam correctly, the Xbox subscription condition, and the parts of cross-play the sources do not confirm.
What the official listings say
Three official product pages describe cross-play, and they agree on the core point:

- Xbox store listing: The product page carries the feature line “DYNAMIC CO-OP ONLINE, CROSSPLAY AND SPLIT-SCREEN Play with your best friend, partner or hellspawn on or between any platform!” It also lists Xbox cross-platform co-op and online co-op for 2 players.
- Steam store page: The listing includes Cross-Platform Multiplayer and co-op features. Steam’s wording is a feature label, so it does not say which multiplayer mode you must select to use it. That is covered in the Steam section below.
- Developer’s official game page (Raccoon Logic): The page describes online co-op, cross-play, and split-screen, and says players can play co-op “on or between any platform.”
These listings establish that cross-play is a designed feature of the game, not an unofficial workaround. They do not list every platform combination, and they are not a substitute for checking your own game version.
Steam: choose the right multiplayer mode
The most important detail for PC players is the multiplayer mode. In its December 12, 2025 update, the developer added Steam-only multiplayer support and kept Epic Online Services (EOS) as the route for cross-play. The Options menu now offers two choices:

To set up cross-play on Steam:
- Launch Revenge of the Savage Planet from your Steam library and confirm the game is updated to the December 12, 2025 build or later.
- Open the game’s Options menu.
- Select Enable Universal Multiplayer.
- Ask your friend on the other platform to make the same selection on their client if they are also on the PC version.
If you select Steam Only Multiplayer instead, you will not be able to play with players outside Steam, even if the game’s store pages mention cross-play.
Xbox console: the Game Pass requirement
The Xbox store listing states that online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. This is an Xbox-specific condition. The listing does not state the same requirement for PlayStation or PC, so do not assume it applies on those platforms.

Co-op size and split-screen
Online co-op is listed for two players. Steam and developer materials also describe split-screen or couch co-op, which allows two people to play on one system without an internet connection. A PlayStation.Blog article published January 9, 2025 described online co-op with cross-play and couch co-op, but it was a pre-launch feature description and does not reflect the current shipping game.
What the sources do not confirm
The available official material supports cross-play in general, but it does not provide a full, current matrix showing which combinations of PlayStation, Xbox, and PC storefronts can connect, or every version-specific exception. A specific pairing may fail for reasons the listings do not explain. If that happens, work through these steps in order:

- Update both game clients to the latest version.
- On Steam, confirm that Enable Universal Multiplayer is selected.
- If the pairing still fails, contact the developer’s support channel. The official support page asks players to include their platform and distribution platform when reporting technical problems, so include both.
Until a pairing is confirmed in official support material or in the game itself, treat it as unverified rather than guaranteed.

Do I need extra hardware or an accessory to play cross-play?
No cited source identifies a required accessory. Cross-play depends on the game, your platform, and the multiplayer setting, so the practical checks are the game version and, on Steam, the Options selection described above.
