Former Bend game director Jeff Ross confirmed he worked on a sequel pitch, but said he could not confirm its status. That pitch does not mean a sequel was approved or is in development.
What happened to the Days Gone 2 pitch?
In April 2021, former Bend Studio game director Jeff Ross said he had worked on a pitch for a sequel. He also said he could not verify whether it had been canceled because of an NDA with his former employer. As VGC reported, Ross put it this way: “I don’t think it’s publicly confirmed what the status of [Days Gone 2] is. I don’t want to be the guy who’s the official source for whatever that is.” VGC’s April 11, 2021 report covers his comments.

A pitch is a proposal, not proof that a publisher greenlit production. VGC reported that Ross’s proposal envisioned a shared universe and co-op play; neither has been confirmed as a feature of an approved or released sequel.
What has Bend Studio said it is making?
On June 2, 2021, then-Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst said Bend was working on “a very exciting new IP” and building on the open-world systems it developed for Days Gone. Bend’s own statement likewise described a brand-new IP. Neither announcement identified the project as a sequel. PlayStation.Blog and GameSpot’s coverage reported those remarks.

In January 2025, GameSpot reported that Sony had canceled a live-service game in development at Bend. Bend community manager Kevin McAllister said the studio still planned to make new work. The report did not identify the canceled project as Days Gone 2, so it is not evidence that the sequel pitch was revived or that this was the project Sony rejected. GameSpot’s report on the cancellation describes what was publicly known.
Why do some reports say the sequel was rejected?
Some coverage has reported that Sony rejected the sequel pitch. That account should be distinguished from Ross’s on-record comments: he confirmed that he worked on a pitch, but declined to confirm its cancellation status. The reviewed public statements do not establish a current Sony decision permanently ruling out a sequel.

Is Days Gone 2 coming out, and what is known about it?
There is no publicly confirmed release date, platform list, edition, or feature set for Days Gone 2. Co-op and a shared universe were reported as ideas in the historical pitch, not commitments for a game in development. The evidence supports saying that a pitch existed and Bend later publicly discussed other work—not that a sequel is scheduled, nor that it can never happen.

If you want to play the existing game, GameSpot lists the original Days Gone for PC, PS4, and PS5. That is the original title, not a sequel announcement. GameSpot’s 2021 article identifies those platforms.
