As of October 8, 2026, Xbox has confirmed that Activision will develop “the next Halo title,” but has not given it a name, release date, or confirmation that it will be numbered Halo 8. Halo: Campaign Evolved is a separate remake of the original game’s campaign.
Is Halo 8 confirmed?
No. Xbox’s September 22, 2026 announcement calls the project “the next Halo title,” not Halo 8. It does not reveal a public title, plot, platforms, or release date. The announcement confirms development of another Halo game, but not that it will be the eighth numbered entry. Xbox’s statement says Activision will develop it with a new, purpose-built team separate from its ongoing development and plans for Call of Duty.

What is the next Halo game Xbox has announced?
The confirmed project is an unnamed next Halo title in development by Activision. Xbox says a small team at Halo Studios will continue supporting the community and games already in market. It has not announced the new title’s story, systems, platforms, or schedule, so there is no official basis for predicting when it will arrive or whether its final name will include a number.

No. Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, not the unnamed next mainline title. Xbox describes it as rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and including three new prequel missions. Its distinct identity and purpose mean its release timing says nothing about when the next title will launch. Xbox’s overview of the remake listed Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5, along with day-one Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass access as planned at the time of publication.

Campaign Evolved’s announced launch date
Xbox’s June 7, 2026 showcase recap announced a July 28, 2026 launch for Campaign Evolved, with early access beginning July 23. Those dates apply to the remake only. The recap said preorders were available across Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation then; it does not establish current stock or availability. Read Xbox’s showcase recap.
How Halo Studios’ earlier plans fit in
In its October 2024 “A New Dawn” post, Halo Studios said it was working on multiple projects and building the next generation of Halo with Unreal Engine 5. That was a statement of the studio’s direction at the time, not an announcement of a game called Halo 8. Xbox’s later September 2026 statement identifies Activision as the developer of the next title. Halo Studios’ 2024 post provides that earlier context.

What to watch for
A definitive answer about “Halo 8” will require an official title announcement. Until Xbox or Halo names the next game, gives a release window, or says it is a numbered sequel, treat claims about its name and timing as speculation rather than confirmation.
