Capcom has not confirmed Dead Rising 5 or announced a release date. The 2018 closure of Capcom Vancouver involved cancelled development projects, but Capcom’s statement did not name Dead Rising 5. Later reporting about a specific cancelled sequel project should therefore be treated as historical reporting, not proof that Capcom has announced a new game.
Has Capcom announced Dead Rising 5?
No confirmed announcement appears in the Capcom materials checked. There is no confirmed release window, platform list, setting, or protagonist for a new Dead Rising sequel. Capcom’s press-release archive displays announcements through June 2026, but that archive alone cannot establish that no announcement has appeared after its latest entries. Check Capcom’s press-release archive for official updates.

What happened to the reported cancelled project?
In September 2018, Capcom said it had reviewed titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, cancelled the studio’s development projects, and would focus development of major titles in Japan. The statement, quoted by GameSpot’s report on the studio closure, referred to projects collectively; it did not identify Dead Rising 5 by name. Reports that a particular Dead Rising sequel was among those projects are not the same as an official Capcom announcement about the sequel’s status.

Capcom reports 19.0 million cumulative units for the Dead Rising series as of June 30, 2026. That total covers the franchise, not an individual game, and it is not evidence that a fifth mainline entry is in development. Capcom dates the series’ beginning to the first game’s August 2006 release and describes its appeal in terms of darkly humorous settings and action. Capcom’s Game Series Sales page provides the current reported total.

What can Dead Rising fans play now?
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the current official release relevant to fans waiting for news, but it is a remaster of the original game—not Dead Rising 5. Capcom announced it on July 2, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Its digital launch was September 19, 2024, and a physical edition was scheduled for November 2024. Capcom’s remaster announcement also reported that the series had exceeded 16 million units as of March 31, 2024; its newer sales page now reports the 19.0 million total.
