There is no direct KOTOR 3 announcement in the official sources reviewed as of October 8, 2026. Lucasfilm Games has announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new-story spiritual successor—not a direct sequel—and the separate Knights of the Old Republic remake has been reported still in development without a confirmed release date.
Has KOTOR 3 been announced?

That distinction matters because two separate projects are often mistaken for a third KOTOR game: the remake of the original and the new Fate of the Old Republic.
Is Fate of the Old Republic a KOTOR sequel?
No. Lucasfilm Games announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic on December 12, 2025, as a single-player action RPG from Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Casey Hudson, the original KOTOR director, is directing it. Arcanaut describes the game as a spiritual successor with a completely new and different story. It was announced for PC and consoles and was in early development at the time of the announcement; no release date was given. Is the KOTOR remake still in development?
GamesRadar reported on March 6, 2026, that Saber Interactive chief creative officer Tim Willits said the remake was “still in development.” He added, “That’s all I can say.” The comment supports its reported development status, but does not establish a release window or additional project details.

A July 2026 PC Gamer report connected the remake to a tentative 2028 slate after Saber executive Steve Allison said it would “hopefully” be among titles associated with that year. The clearest announced new project connected to the series is Fate of the Old Republic, but its spiritual-successor status does not make it KOTOR 3. The remake is a separate effort to revisit the original, with no confirmed release date in the cited reporting. Anyone waiting specifically for a direct continuation should regard its existence and timing as unknown rather than infer either from these other projects.

If you want to play while waiting, look for an existing Knights of the Old Republic edition that matches your platform. Availability, stock and compatibility vary by edition and retailer; the existence of those games is not evidence that a third installment has been announced.
