No—GTA 6 crossplay has not been confirmed. As of October 8, 2026, Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but has not said that players on those consoles can play together. Crossplay is unannounced, not promised, and not definitively ruled out.
Can PS5 and Xbox players play GTA 6 together?
There is no confirmed answer yet. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and its pre-order support page also names both consoles. Those listings establish that the game is available on both platform families; they do not establish shared multiplayer or crossplay.

Take-Two Interactive’s June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement describes GTA VI as “a single-player experience.” The official information cited here does not establish an online mode or cross-platform play. That describes what has been announced, not what Rockstar might announce later.
What GTA Online tells us—and what it doesn’t
GTA Online is useful context, but its rules are not confirmation of GTA VI’s design. Rockstar’s support article about GTA Online cross-network play says it applies between PC platforms, such as Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, Epic Games Launcher, and Xbox app on PC; it also says PC players cannot play with console players. The restriction is specific to GTA Online and should not be treated as a GTA VI announcement. Rockstar Support: GTA Online cross-network play.

Cross-progression is a separate feature from crossplay. In GTA Online, Rockstar allows certain profile transfers between generations within the same console family, such as PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series. Profiles cannot be migrated between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, or from console families to PC. These are GTA Online migration rules, not GTA VI rules. If you are choosing between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S because of friends, do not assume you will be able to play GTA VI together. Buy or choose a platform based on what you and your friends already own and any features Rockstar confirms—not on a crossplay promise that has not been made. Rockstar’s “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” label is a platform marketing claim, not information about crossplay.

Rockstar currently lists both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. Those facts may help with platform availability and timing, but neither answers whether the consoles will share multiplayer.
