Nintendo’s current gaming-systems lineup does not list a Nintendo 4DS. That means there is no 4DS announcement in the lineup reviewed here—not that Nintendo has ruled one out forever. Nintendo’s official pages instead point to the Switch line as its current hardware and say manufacturing of the 3DS family has ended.
Is Nintendo making a 4DS?
Nintendo of America’s gaming-systems page lists Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, but not a Nintendo 4DS. The page describes Switch 2 as “The next evolution of the Nintendo Switch™ system.” That is the clearest official picture of Nintendo’s listed systems, not a prediction about every product the company might release in the future.

The reviewed official information gives no 4DS release date, design, features, price, or confirmation that Nintendo intends to use the 4DS name. Claims that a 4DS is coming—or that Nintendo will never make one—go beyond what these pages establish.
What happened to the Nintendo 3DS?
The 3DS is a predecessor, not a currently manufactured system or a confirmed successor line. Nintendo UK’s New Nintendo 3DS hardware page states: “The manufacturing of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has ended.” The page describes features of that hardware, including its C Stick and improved processing, but it does not announce a 4DS.

- Features: 3D Depth Slider, Wi-Fi Capability, Nintendo 3DS Sound, Mii Maker, 3D Camera, Front & Rear Camera, Touch Screen
- Includes: AC Power Adapter, Stylus
- Wired Connectivity: Wireless
- Model Compatibility: Nintendo 3DS
So, if by “successor” you mean a newly announced system carrying on the 3DS name or design, Nintendo’s reviewed lineup does not show one. The Switch line is the current system family named on Nintendo’s official systems page.
Is Nintendo Switch 2 a 4DS successor?
Nintendo calls Switch 2 the next evolution of Switch, not a 4DS. The product’s official technical specifications describe Switch 2 hardware: a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen and 256 GB of UFS storage, among other details. Those specifications belong to Switch 2; they are not evidence of a 4DS design or a forecast of its features.
Switch 2 is relevant as current Nintendo hardware, but the available official information does not establish it as a direct replacement for the 3DS or as a 4DS under another name.
