What has The Coalition said about Gears 6?
In a June 2026 account of the project, Xbox described The Coalition’s decision as “the decision to go back instead of forward, to tell an origin story instead of a sequel, to make E-Day instead of Gears 6.” That establishes which project the studio chose at that point; it does not say that Gears 6 is permanently cancelled. Earlier, in a 2024 Xbox Wire interview, Coalition brand director Nicole Fawcette said the team was proud of the stories told in Gears 4 and Gears 5 and was “not retreating from that storyline in any way.” That signals the later storyline had not been abandoned, but it is not a promise of a particular sequel, development schedule, or release. What is E-Day, and how does it relate to a sequel?
Gears of War: E-Day is an origin story set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during the opening hours of the Locust invasion.
