There could eventually be a PS7, but Sony has not announced a console by that name. As of October 8, 2026, the company has not revealed a PS7 release date, price, or specifications. Sony has discussed planning for next-generation PlayStation platforms, but said in its May 2026 investor Q&A that timing and pricing had not been decided.
Has Sony announced the PS7?
No. Sony’s official May 8, 2026 investor Q&A discusses next-generation platforms without naming a PS7. Its English summary says that “no decisions have been made regarding timing or pricing.” Sony notes that the English Q&A summary is not a direct translation of the Japanese session, so the statement should be attributed to the summary rather than presented as a verbatim comment from a named executive. This establishes that Sony is considering future platform plans; it does not confirm that the eventual product will be called PS7. There is no official PS7 launch window, price, hardware specification, or design to report.
When is the PS7 coming out?
Sony has not given a PS7 release date. Even the next PlayStation generation does not have an official timing announcement: Sony said timing had not been decided in May 2026.

What the PS6 forecast says
On July 2, 2026, TechRadar reported that Ampere analyst Piers Harding-Rolls expected a possible PS6 launch no earlier than 2028, with the end of 2028 as his then-current expectation. Why has Sony left the timing open?
Sony said elevated memory prices and tight supply-demand conditions were expected to continue through 2027, and that it was considering how those conditions affect next-generation hardware planning. The company said it would examine options such as reducing costs elsewhere in the hardware, adjusting sales and go-to-market strategies, and potential changes to its business model. No such hardware conclusion follows from Sony’s announcement. On July 1, 2026, Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Director of Content Communications Sid Shuman said physical game-disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles would be discontinued starting in January 2028. Sony said games released, or set to release, before that date in disc format would be unaffected. Should you buy a PS5 or wait for the next PlayStation?
If you want a console now, decide based on the PS5’s current availability and the games you want to play—not on an assumed PS7 date. Sony described PS5 as being in its adoption phase in May 2026, and its official State of Play page continued to announce PS5 games, including a September 2026 announcement for a title launching on PS5 on April 8, 2027.
