Will Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines Get a Remake?

No remake of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is confirmed. Paradox’s strategy and Bloodlines 2’s commercial outcome make a near-term company-led project look unlikely, but neither rules one out.

No remake of 2004’s Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines has been confirmed in official material reviewed as of October 8, 2026. Public comments from Paradox Interactive make a Paradox-led remake look unlikely in the near term, but they do not amount to a cancellation announcement or proof that a remake is impossible.

Why a Paradox-led remake looks unlikely

Paradox has signaled that making another large Bloodlines-style role-playing game is not a current strategic priority. In an interview published October 8, 2024, deputy CEO Mattias Lilja said, “It is not in our strategic direction to make this kind of game.” He was discussing a hypothetical future Bloodlines title and whether Paradox would develop it itself—not announcing that a remake had been rejected or cancelled. PC Gamer’s interview with Lilja also describes a possible third game as something another party might make under license.

That distinction matters: the remarks are evidence about Paradox’s plans for its own game development, not a definitive statement about every possible remake, remaster, re-release, or licensed project.

What Bloodlines 2 tells us—and what it doesn’t

Bloodlines 2 offers business context for Paradox’s caution, but its history does not establish why the original game will or will not be remade. Paradox announced The Chinese Room as the sequel’s developer in 2023. The game was released on October 21, 2025. In a subsequent disclosure, Paradox reported a 355 million SEK non-cash write-down of capitalised development costs, based on an updated sales forecast made 30 days after release. Paradox’s release announcement identifies the developer and release date; its 2025 disclosure reports the write-down.

In its 2025 interim report, Paradox characterized the sequel as a project begun in a different strategic era and outside the company’s core business. CEO Fredrik Wester later said sales fell short of projections and accepted responsibility as publisher, adding that Paradox would focus capital on its core segments while assessing how best to develop the World of Darkness catalogue. The interim report and company disclosure document that framing. These facts support the view that Paradox has reason to be cautious about another major project in the series; they do not prove a remake decision has been made.

The schedule also illustrates the risks of a large production. In 2024, Paradox and The Chinese Room said they had jointly delayed the game to prioritize polish and quality assurance, and planned to expand its story. That is relevant background, not a stated reason for the remake’s absence. Their delay announcement explains the decision at the time.

Does White Wolf’s role mean it can remake the original?

Not necessarily. Paradox said in 2025 that White Wolf is the official licensing and publishing entity for World of Darkness transmedia properties, and that White Wolf and Paradox co-published Bloodlines 2. The announcement establishes those current brand and publishing roles. It does not, by itself, identify every right required to remake or re-release the 2004 game.

The complete rights chain for the original—including game-specific publishing, code, music, and other licensed elements—is not established by the public material cited here. So it would be premature to claim either that Paradox has every necessary right or that a particular rights dispute makes a remake impossible.

Remake, remaster, re-release, and mods are different paths

  • Remake: A substantially rebuilt version of the original game. No official remake has been confirmed.
  • Remaster or re-release: A revised or republished version that may involve different work and rights from a full remake. The sources cited here do not confirm one.
  • Fan patches or mods: Community-made changes are separate from an official remake. The cited sources do not establish their availability or legal status.

Those distinctions prevent two common overstatements: that the original is definitely being remade because the franchise continues, or that an executive’s comments about a third game rule out every other route.

So, why won’t Bloodlines get a remake?

The most accurate answer is that there is no confirmed remake, and Paradox’s public strategy points away from the company producing another large Bloodlines-style RPG itself. The company’s comments concerned a hypothetical sequel, while the sequel’s commercial outcome provides context rather than a direct explanation. A near-term Paradox-led remake therefore looks unlikely on the public evidence available as of October 8, 2026; whether another party could make one, or whether a remake might happen later, remains unconfirmed.
