The same July 7, 2026 update lengthened the charged-attack windup on the Sacring Bell and changed several progression and weapon-balance values. The official notes describe a single new weapon, not a set of new melee options, so the update’s headline addition is narrower than the phrase “melee weapons” suggests.
What the 0.9.4 update added
The official announcement for Witchfire 0.9.4, published on the game’s Steam news page on July 7, 2026, lists a new Zweihander melee weapon in its changelog. The changelog sentence reads: “Added a Zweihander melee weapon to the game. It has to be found to be unlocked.” The note is attributed to the update changelog itself, not to a named developer. The same patch was also corroborated on SteamDB’s patch-notes entry for the build.

How the Zweihander unlocks
The Zweihander is locked at the start of the update and must be found in play before it can be used. The official notes confirm that requirement but do not say where the weapon is located, what triggers its discovery, or whether it is tied to a specific area, boss, or progression point. Anyone looking for a step-by-step route should wait for a more detailed guide or check the official notes for any follow-up.
#1 Best Overall
- Every Roll Is a Risk, Every Turn a Twist – Build witches. Decide: push for more, or roll the decision die and dump them on someone else. With one bad roll, your whole plan can backfire. Ditch the Witch dice game blends quick thinking and tension with laugh-out-loud reversals that keep every game round unpredictable.
- Strategic Sabotage in Every Direction – Use the decision die to pass your curses left, right, or even choose a rival. No other spooky dice game lets you direct your bad luck. It’s not just about surviving—it’s about knowing when to strike and who to hit. That’s what makes this more than just a roll-and-react game.
- Game-Changing Powers in Every Roll – With special powers tied to spooky icons—like bats that reroll, pumpkins that punish, and cats that erase your score—no two games play the same. These variant powers lead to revenge plays, surprise comebacks, and hilarious chaos round after round, making it the perfect dice game for family game night.
- No Setup. No Scorepads. All Action. – Forget pencils, charts, or long instructions—just grab the dice and start rolling. Includes six custom dice (all themed with bats, ghosts, spiders, pumpkins, cats, and - of course - witches), plus a counter die and a decision die. The counter die replaces the scorepad for fast, hassle-free gameplay. Designed for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up. Best with 3+ players.
- Chaos in Every Roll, Quality in Every Piece – From surprise witch dumps to last-second counters, Ditch the Witch turns fast dice rolls into fast laughs. It’s frantic, clever, and feels great in your hands—exactly what you’d expect from Dice Emporium, known for top-tier quality and the best dice games around.
The Sacring Bell’s charged attack
The 0.9.4 notes also changed the Sacring Bell’s charged-attack animation so that the windup is intentionally longer. The developers’ stated reason is to balance the Bell’s powerful Special attack. The notes do not give numeric frame counts, damage values, or before-and-after timing, so the size of the change can only be described qualitatively.
Zweihander and Sacring Bell compared
| Item | Type of change | Stated purpose | What the notes leave out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zweihander | New melee weapon | Added to the game; must be found to unlock | Location, unlock trigger, stats, and balance numbers are not stated |
| Sacring Bell (charged attack) | Animation change; longer windup | Balances the Bell’s powerful Special attack | Exact frame timing and damage values are not stated |
Because the notes describe only these two items as melee-related, a comparison of their performance is not supported by the official text.

Wider balance and progression changes in the same patch
Beyond the melee additions, 0.9.4 changed several systems that affect every weapon and every run:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Weapon damage falloff: the update rebalanced how weapon damage drops off, which the developers said was meant to improve weapon feel and add a strategic layer.
- Ascension costs: costs were reduced for levels before level 30.
- Witchfire gains: the amount earned on the Island of the Damned and Scarlet Coast was increased.
The developers also said the damage-falloff changes could be rolled back if further playtesting showed they were not working. Players who notice a change in weapon behaviour after the update should check the official notes for any reversal before assuming a permanent balance.

Is 0.9.4 still the current build?
The announcement described 0.9.4 as “most likely” the final patch for Revelations and said it would represent Witchfire until version 1.0, while leaving room for a hotfix or rollback. That framing reflects the state of the game in July 2026, not necessarily today.
A community Reddit post in the Witchfire subreddit references a later 0.9.6 deployment. The full official notes for that build and its exact release date were not confirmed in the material behind this article. If you are playing a newer version, read the official patch notes on the Steam news page before relying on the Zweihander’s availability or the Sacring Bell’s balance, since either may have changed. The Reddit post is at the Witchfire community’s 0.9.6 deployment thread.

What to check in your own game
- Open the game’s Steam news page and find the 0.9.4 entry dated July 7, 2026, to confirm the version your copy is on.
- Check the newest entry on the same page to see whether a later patch, such as 0.9.6, has changed the Zweihander or Sacring Bell.
- Compare your Sacring Bell timing and weapon falloff against the notes; if the falloff values look different, a rollback may have been applied.
The official notes are the only source for version-specific changes. Community reports are useful for experience, but they do not replace the changelog.
