WitchHand is a single-player strategy and simulation game that turns 4X-style expansion into a card-driven system. You lead a coven into the Ninth Realm, develop villages, gather resources, research new paths, and decide whether to trade with neighboring factions or fight them.

What is WitchHand?

Developed by Jon Nielsen and published by HopFrog, WitchHand was released on Steam on February 7, 2024. The game describes its approach as bringing the 4X strategy formula into card-based gameplay: exploration, expansion, resource management, research, diplomacy, and combat are all part of the same campaign. Steam’s WitchHand listing identifies it as a single-player game.

What do you do in WitchHand?

You guide a coven through the Ninth Realm and build up villages by making strategic choices through cards. The central challenge is balancing the people and resources needed to expand with research, relations with neighboring factions, and defense against hostile creatures.

  • Explore and expand: uncover the realm and grow your presence through villages.
  • Manage production: gather resources and direct workers toward the needs of your settlement.
  • Research: develop along different paths to shape how your coven grows.
  • Choose how to handle neighbors: trade and give gifts, or go to war and take resources.
  • Defend your settlements: prepare for hostile creatures that can threaten your survival.

How do the witches and playstyles differ?

Witches have distinct spells, units, buildings, and playstyles, so the coven you lead affects the strategic options available. Steam names the Celestial Witch, Chaos Witch, and Chef Witch as examples. The listing also describes different research paths, giving players another way to steer a campaign; it does not provide a complete breakdown of each witch’s abilities on the store page.

What are WitchHand’s PC requirements and supported languages?

Steam lists the following minimum requirements and interface languages. The operating-system requirement shown for the game should not be read as a guarantee that the current Steam client runs on that system: Steam says its client requires Windows 10 or later as of January 1, 2024.

Has WitchHand received updates?

The official Steam Community news and patch archive records post-launch updates. A June 2024 announcement covered the Phoenix Witch update, German, Polish, and French localization, and progression and balance changes. A November 2025 patch reported performance improvements and fixes related to save selection and Watchtower behavior; a November 16, 2025 hotfix addressed an engine incompatibility. These dated posts document updates through that period, but do not establish a current development roadmap.

Is WitchHand worth considering?

WitchHand is aimed at players who enjoy strategy games built around managing a growing settlement and making interconnected choices, but want those systems presented through cards. Its mix of expansion, production, research, diplomacy, and combat gives a campaign several competing priorities. Peaceful Mode is the clearest option for players who want to focus on building without constant extinction pressure; players who want that survival threat can choose the standard experience. Steam’s review rating, review count, price, and sale status are time-sensitive, so consult the store listing for current figures.
