Withering Presence refers to two different abilities: an Occultist notable passive in Path of Exile and a persistent aura skill gem in Path of Exile 2. The game matters: the first grants passive bonuses, while the second periodically applies Withered to nearby enemies. Path of Exile’s Ruthless mode also has different notable effects from standard mode.
Which Withering Presence do you mean?

Path of Exile: the Occultist notable
In standard Path of Exile, Withering Presence is an Occultist notable passive. Its listed effects include a chaos damage bonus, chaos resistance, periodic application of Withered to nearby enemies, and reduced damage over time dealt by nearby Hindered enemies. These are version-sensitive passive-tree effects, so check the current in-game tree for the values that apply to your character.

Do not assume the standard-mode bonuses apply in Ruthless. In the Ruthless version, the notable does not provide the chaos resistance, chaos damage bonus, or Hindered-enemy damage-over-time reduction listed for standard mode. Grinding Gear Games documented these Ruthless changes in its Path of Exile 3.22.0 patch notes.

Path of Exile 2: the aura skill gem
In Path of Exile 2, Withering Presence is a persistent buff skill with Chaos and Duration tags. While active, its aura periodically applies Withered to enemies in the player’s presence. The wiki lists a six-second Withered duration, an application interval that varies with gem level, and a reservation cost of 30 Spirit. These mechanics can change with patches, so use the current gem text for live values.
How to get it
The documented acquisition route is to engrave an Uncut Spirit Gem in-game. Withering Presence is not a physical gem or an item to purchase outside the game.

Duration and application interval are different
Skill Effect Duration can lengthen or shorten the Withered debuff’s duration. It does not change how often the aura applies Withered; the application interval is also unaffected by Cast Speed, according to the skill’s interaction notes. A longer debuff therefore does not mean the aura pulses more often.

What to check before using it in a build
- Confirm whether you are playing Path of Exile or Path of Exile 2; the ability type and effects differ.
- In Path of Exile, confirm whether your character is in standard mode or Ruthless before relying on the Occultist notable’s bonuses.
- In Path of Exile 2, check the current gem and patch text for Spirit reservation, duration, and level-based application timing.
- Evaluate the skill or passive alongside your exact build and game version; these mechanics alone do not establish whether it is a good build choice.
