Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor the connected MachineGames story, play Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, then Wolfenstein: Youngblood. That is story chronology, not release order: The New Order came out first. Sales figures are less definitive: the available numbers are third-party estimates for PC versions of three games, not a complete ranking of worldwide sales.
MachineGames story chronology
This is the clearest chronological order for the modern, connected storyline. Cyberpilot is a VR side story set shortly before Youngblood; it is not a mainline campaign chapter. Steam’s Wolfenstein catalog lists the games and product descriptions, while Bethesda’s retrospective discusses the era’s development history.

- Wolfenstein: The Old Blood — A standalone prequel set before The New Order.
- Wolfenstein: The New Order — The main entry that begins the MachineGames-era story.
- Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus — The direct continuation of The New Order.
- Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot — A virtual-reality side story set shortly before Youngblood.
- Wolfenstein: Youngblood — The later story in this sequence.
Release order
If you want to experience the games as players first encountered them, put The New Order before its prequel. The 2019 titles Cyberpilot and Youngblood share a release date in Steam’s catalog, so their same-day release does not establish a meaningful order between them.

Available sales estimates, ranked carefully
A complete, comparable, publisher-confirmed lifetime sales ranking across platforms is not established by the available records. VGChartz reports selected shipped estimates for PC entries, but keeps separate platform records and does not provide a shipped figure for every game. These three figures can be ranked against one another as PC estimates only:
#1 Best Overall
- Box contains 2 discs and a code
- persistent broadband Internet connection required for use of online functionality and downloads of updates
| Rank among listed PC estimates | Game | PC shipped estimate | VGChartz record date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Wolfenstein: The New Order | 1.82 million | Database page last updated January 4, 2018 |
| 2 | Wolfenstein: The Old Blood | 0.60 million | Database page last updated April 21, 2018 |
| 3 | Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus | 0.55 million | No update date shown on the database page |
| — | Cyberpilot, Youngblood, and other entries | Not enough comparable data | VGChartz records do not support a complete all-platform comparison |
The figures come from VGChartz’s Wolfenstein game sales database. “Shipped” estimates are not the same as official publisher-reported worldwide lifetime sales, and the record dates differ. They should not be used to infer a definitive franchise-wide sales order or to compare total demand across platforms.

The franchise’s broader release history includes the original Castle Wolfenstein (1981), Beyond Castle Wolfenstein (1984), Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny (1992), Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001), Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (2003), Wolfenstein RPG (2008), and Wolfenstein (2009). This is a release-era overview, not a single unified story timeline: older entries have different formats and do not all share one continuity. The series also includes multiplayer and mobile entries, in addition to campaign games and the modern VR side story. Bethesda’s MachineGames retrospective offers official historical context for the modern era.
