Wordle answer for September 17, 2025

The answer to Wordle #1551 is TEETH, the plural of tooth. PC Gamer and The Economic Times both reported the solution for September 17, 2025: PC Gamer and The Economic Times.

Why the repeated letters matter

TEETH has five letters but only three distinct letters: T appears in positions one and four, E appears in positions two and three, and H appears once. When a guess reveals a letter, you still need to work out whether it appears elsewhere and which positions it occupies.

How Wordle feedback works

Players have six attempts. After each guess, the game marks letters green when they are correct and in the right position, yellow when they occur in the answer but are in another position, and gray when they do not occur in the answer, according to The Economic Times’ description of the puzzle.

What strategy statistics can—and cannot—tell you

A 2022 arXiv paper, Using Wordle for Learning to Design and Compare Strategies, studied strategies against a 2,315-word answer set. It reported a baseline average of 4.078 guesses, with more than six trials needed for 1.77% of answers; its best reported strategy averaged 3.674 guesses and failed in 0.65% of cases. These are results from that paper’s setup, not a prediction of how many guesses a person will need for #1551 or a guarantee about the current New York Times answer set.
