The answer for Monday, August 10, 2026, was SNIPE, puzzle #1878. If you are comparing your streak or checking a missed puzzle, make sure the date matches your local reset time rather than assuming that every player received the same calendar date at the same moment.

How to find older Wordle answers
For a longer history, use a maintained Wordle archive organized by month. TechRadar’s archive describes itself as a list of previous answers, arranged by month and searchable with the browser’s Find command. To check a particular word:
- Open the archive and navigate to the relevant month.
- Use Ctrl+F on Windows or Linux, or Command+F on Mac.
- Enter the five-letter candidate word.
- Check the surrounding date and puzzle number rather than relying on the word alone.
This is useful when you want to know whether a candidate has appeared before, study the vocabulary used by the game, or review a puzzle you missed. It is not an official promise of every future answer or a guarantee that a word will never return.

Can a Wordle answer repeat?
Yes. Wordle answers can repeat. TechRadar’s archive marks repeated solutions and notes that the game has begun reusing answers, so eliminating a word solely because it appeared in the past is no longer a completely reliable strategy.
There is also an important distinction between the answer list and the guess list. The New York Times has curated and changed the eligible answer pool over time. Some forms, including certain plurals, have been excluded from the answer pool, while ordinary guesses may still accept words that can never be selected as the solution. A word appearing in an archive therefore does not tell you that every related word is eligible—or that the same editorial rules will remain unchanged.
Why Wordle archives sometimes disagree
Third-party answer lists are compiled in different ways. Some record observed daily solutions, while others rely on old source-code data, precomputed schedules, or a numbering system that no longer matches current reporting. They can therefore disagree about a date.
Rank #3
For August 11, 2026, one older or reverse-engineered schedule reportedly pointed to WAFER or another word near puzzle #1879. That conflicts with the same-day identification of FENCE, the separate August archive, and multiple player reports. For a live puzzle, current-day evidence should take priority over a stale precomputed list.

The safest way to read any archive is as a reference compiled from observed solutions—not as an official, immutable New York Times schedule. The August archive used here even describes itself as a personal archive whose entries may still be awaiting player verification.
How Wordle works
Wordle asks you to identify a secret five-letter word in six attempts. After each guess, the tiles provide three types of information:
- Correct-position tile: the letter is in the answer and in the right position.
- Present-but-misplaced tile: the letter is in the answer but belongs in another position.
- Absent tile: the letter is not used in the answer, subject to Wordle’s handling of repeated letters.
A new puzzle becomes available at midnight in the player’s local time zone. That means readers in different regions can legitimately see different calendar dates for the same puzzle number for a period around the daily reset.
Wordle is owned and published by The New York Times. The company and Hasbro have also produced Wordle: The Party Game, a physical adaptation using five-letter words and six attempts for group play. It is a separate offline game—not the daily New York Times puzzle—and it does not function as an archive of past NYT answers.
Play Wordle away from the screen
If you enjoy the six-guess format but want a social version for game night, Wordle The Party Game is the most direct physical extension of the digital game. It is designed for group play and recreates the core five-letter-word challenge without implying that it contains the daily NYT puzzle or this answer history. Retail availability, sellers, price, and stock can change, so check the current listing before buying.
More screen-free NYT-style puzzles
For readers who want a broader collection rather than a dedicated answer archive, Puzzle Mania! is a 224-page hardcover from The New York Times Games and Joel Fagliano. The publisher describes it as including Wordle-related material alongside other NYT Games-inspired puzzles. Its listed ISBN is 9798893310481, with a publication date of October 21, 2025. It is better understood as a general New York Times Games puzzle book—not a complete historical key to Wordle answers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What today’s history tells us
The recent sequence includes familiar words such as FENCE, SNIPE, GRIPE, REPLY, and SLUSH alongside less common entries such as PRIVY, ARGOT, POSIT, MOTIF, and PENAL. That mix is a reminder that Wordle’s answer pool is curated rather than limited to the most common everyday words. A prior appearance can inform your archive checks, but it should not be treated as a permanent exclusion.
Best Value
Sources used for this update include same-day Wordle reporting, an August 2026 answer archive, public player-result discussions, TechRadar’s maintained historical list, New York Times Games reporting about the answer pool, and the NYT/Hasbro announcement for the physical party game. The New York Times game page itself was not independently accessible in the research pass, so this page does not present a public all-time NYT archive as an official source.

What is today’s Wordle answer for August 11, 2026?
The answer is FENCE, puzzle #1879.
What was yesterday’s Wordle answer?
The answer for August 10, 2026, puzzle #1878, was SNIPE.
Does Wordle ever repeat an answer?
Yes. Repeated solutions are now possible, so a word appearing in the past does not guarantee that it has been permanently removed.
Why might the Wordle date be different for me?
The daily puzzle resets at midnight in each player’s local time zone. Around the reset, players in different regions may see different calendar dates for the same puzzle number.
Is there an official New York Times all-time Wordle answer archive?
The available research supports third-party maintained archives of observed solutions, but it does not establish that the New York Times publishes a public official all-time answer list. Third-party archives can be delayed, incomplete, or based on outdated schedules.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
Bottom line: Wordle #1879, released Tuesday, August 11, 2026, is FENCE. The previous answer was SNIPE. Use past-answer archives as helpful references, not permanent rules: Wordle can repeat answers, the answer pool has changed over time, and outdated schedules may conflict with the current solution.
