To see what you’re doing, press M to open the map or L to open the quest log. The map gives you a snapshot of quests and tracked objectives; the quest log lets you choose which quests to track and inspect their status and type. Quest requirements and rewards depend on the specific quest, feature, and expansion, so check the quest’s own details rather than assuming one rule applies to all of Azeroth.
How do I track quests and see their status?
- Open the map: Press M to see quests and other objectives your character is undertaking. Use the map legend to interpret quest markers, and map filters to show or hide categories. Blizzard’s July 2024 quest UI guide lists Campaign, Legendary, Repeatable, In Progress, Important, Meta, Local Story, and Turn In categories.
- Open the quest log: Press L to review quests and select which ones to track. Hovering over a quest can show its status and type, such as Repeatable, Important, or Campaign.
If a quest marker is unclear, compare its map icon with the legend, then check the quest log for its status and type. The map is a snapshot; the quest log is the better place to choose what to track.
Why can’t I pick up this quest?
There is no universal prerequisite recipe. A quest may depend on character level, reputation, campaign progress, unlocking a feature, or party eligibility. Check the quest itself and any related Important or Campaign objectives for the requirement you have not met.
Blizzard’s examples show why older advice should not be generalized. Its Legion World Quest guide said those quests unlocked at level 110 after completing Uniting the Isles and reaching Friendly with five Broken Isles factions. That describes Legion, not a rule for every expansion.

A more recent example is Blizzard’s October 2026 hotfix: certain Omnium Folio weekly prerequisites became account-wide starting in Week 2, but each alternate character still needed to complete the Sunstrider Omnium unlock questline. Account-wide progress for some prerequisites did not remove the character-specific unlock.
How can I see what a World Quest asks me to do and what it rewards?
Select the relevant zone on the map and inspect the World Quest tooltip. Blizzard says it can show the required tasks, rewards, and time remaining. Use those details to decide whether to pursue the objective before its timer expires.

Requirements and rewards change by expansion and event. Blizzard’s Legion guide, for example, described a different set of unlock conditions and reward types than its Shadowlands event guide. Treat older examples as historical context; the live quest tooltip is the useful reference for the quest currently on your map.
Why is this quest unavailable or different when I’m grouped?
Party Sync aligns party members to a shared quest state and phase. Blizzard’s Party Sync preview says some quests a player has already completed can be replayed once per day for rewards appropriate to that player’s actual level. Repeatable quests, including dailies and World Quests, were excluded from replay in that preview. A quest can also become unavailable if the group does not meet its requirements.

- Discover a Lost Continent - Explore the ancient kingdoms of Pandaria and mount your defense against a newly awakened evil stirring in the continent's dark corners.
If access changes after joining a group, check whether Party Sync is active and whether the group still meets the quest’s conditions. A change in phase or shared quest state can affect what you see without changing the quest’s underlying requirements.
What rewards can quests give?
Rewards are quest-specific. Blizzard’s Legion World Quest article listed gold, gear, profession reagents, pet charms, and faction reputation as examples. Its Shadowlands event article described a separate event reward package and said the event required completing 20 World Quests. Those are dated, expansion-specific examples—not a promise about current quests. Inspect the active quest’s details or tooltip to see its stated reward.

Is there a central progression tracker?
Blizzard’s returning-player guide describes Journeys as an Adventure Guide tab intended to consolidate progression such as Renown, Delves, and Prey, with availability tied to Midnight launching. Because that description is launch-dependent, check in-game to confirm whether Journeys is available in your current version. For ordinary active quest tracking, the map and quest log provide the documented controls.
