Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes—your PC can run World of Warcraft if it meets Blizzard’s complete minimum specification for its platform. For a new Windows purchase, use every entry in the Recommended column as the target, not just a modern-sounding graphics label. These are requirement tiers, not independent tests: Blizzard does not promise a particular frame rate, graphics preset, resolution beyond the listed minimum, or performance in a specific raid.
Start with Blizzard’s current official requirements table, then use the separate GPU architecture notice to check whether an older graphics architecture is supported. Both checks are necessary.

What the World of Warcraft requirements actually tell you
Blizzard publishes separate Windows and macOS tables. Each table has a Minimum tier and a Recommended tier, and the values are not interchangeable between operating systems. A computer that clears one line but fails another—for example, enough RAM but an unsupported GPU—does not meet the complete tier.

It is not an FPS guarantee and does not identify a graphics preset that will feel smooth in every location. The Recommended tier is a stronger purchasing target, but it is still not a benchmark or a promise of a fixed frame rate. Windows requirements
The following values are Blizzard’s current Windows entries. “Available” storage means free space, not the drive’s advertised capacity.
| Component | Windows minimum | Windows recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 64-bit, Service Pack 1 | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | 4 cores at 3.0 GHz; 4th Generation Intel Core Haswell or AMD Ryzen Zen | 6 cores at 3.5 GHz; 8th Generation Intel Core Coffee Lake or AMD Ryzen Zen 2 |
| Graphics | DirectX 12-capable 3 GB GPU; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900 series, AMD GCN 4th generation, or Intel Iris Xe Graphics, with manufacturer driver support required | DirectX 12-capable 8 GB GPU; NVIDIA GeForce RTX, AMD RDNA 2, or Intel Arc 7 Graphics |
| System memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Storage | 128 GB available; an SSD is listed, and Blizzard warns that HDD performance can affect the experience | 128 GB available SSD |
| Internet | Broadband | Broadband |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse required | Multi-button mouse with scroll wheel |
| Minimum display resolution | 1280 × 720 | 1280 × 720 |
The operating-system entries are exactly what the live page currently shows. They should not be read as a separate statement about security updates or the wider support policy for those Windows releases.
How to read the Windows graphics line
Three separate conditions appear in the Minimum graphics entry: the card must belong to a listed family, provide at least 3 GB of graphics memory, and be DirectX 12-capable with a manufacturer-supported driver. A family name alone is not enough. The Recommended entry likewise combines an 8 GB capacity, DirectX 12 capability and one of the listed architecture families.
Mac requirements
Use Blizzard’s Mac table rather than translating the Windows numbers. Apple silicon, Intel processors, Metal support and macOS versions are specified differently.
| Component | Mac minimum | Mac recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | macOS 10.13 | macOS 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4670 or Apple M1 | Intel Core i7-6700K or Apple M1 Max or better |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB; AMD Radeon R9 M290 2 GB; Intel UHD 630 on macOS 10.13 or higher with 45 W; or an Apple M1 Metal-capable GPU | AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 8 GB or Apple M1 Max or better |
| System memory | 4 GB RAM; 8 GB is required for supported integrated graphics | 8 GB RAM |
| Storage | 100 GB available | 100 GB available SSD |
| Internet | Broadband | Broadband |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse | Keyboard and mouse |
| Minimum display resolution | 1024 × 768 | 1024 × 768 |
An M1-based Mac is therefore evaluated against the Apple entries in this table, while an Intel Mac is evaluated against the named Intel and graphics requirements. Do not assume that a Windows-equivalent GPU label maps directly to macOS performance.
Minimum versus recommended: choosing the right target
When the minimum tier is enough to answer “can it run?”
If every Minimum cell for your platform is satisfied, the machine is within Blizzard’s stated compatibility floor. That answers the narrow launch question. It does not tell you what frame rate you will see in a capital city, a large battleground, a raid, or a crowded event, and the official pages reviewed here provide no such measurements.
Why the recommended tier is the safer new-PC target
A new Windows purchase should match every Recommended cell in the Windows table, including processor generation, GPU architecture, graphics memory, RAM and SSD space. This avoids buying a system that technically starts the game but leaves little headroom for busy scenes or future updates. Treat the recommendation as a specification target, not as a tested performance profile.

Do not average components
Requirements are conjunctive. A six-core processor cannot compensate for a graphics card that lacks the required DirectX 12 support, and a large GPU cannot compensate for insufficient system memory or free storage. Check each component independently before deciding.
How to check an existing PC
Record the exact model names before comparing them with Blizzard’s rows. Generic descriptions such as “gaming graphics” or “RTX graphics” do not establish a card’s VRAM, architecture or driver support.
- Identify the GPU. In Windows, open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, or open Device Manager → Display adapters. Copy the complete model name, including its series number.
- Confirm architecture and VRAM. Use the exact model documentation from the manufacturer to determine the architecture generation, dedicated graphics memory and DirectX 12 capability. Integrated graphics should be treated as the specific model shown by the system, not as a generic Intel or AMD category.
- Check the processor. Record the processor model, physical core count and rated clock. Compare its generation and core/clock combination with the appropriate Windows or Mac row; do not compare clock speed alone.
- Check system RAM. Record installed memory and compare it with the platform’s tier. On the Mac Minimum row, integrated graphics have the separate 8 GB condition shown in the table.
- Check free storage. Look at the drive where the game will be installed and record free space, not total capacity. Confirm whether it is an SSD. Blizzard lists an SSD at the Recommended level and warns that HDD performance can affect the experience.
- Check the operating system and display. Verify the exact OS edition and 64-bit status on Windows, or the macOS version on a Mac. Confirm that the display can meet the platform’s listed minimum resolution.
- Check peripherals and connectivity. Plan for broadband internet and a keyboard and mouse. Windows’ Recommended row specifically calls for a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel.
Compare the complete set of results, not the strongest single component. If one required value is below Minimum, the system does not meet that tier even when the other parts exceed it.
Older GPU architecture: a separate compatibility check
Blizzard’s September 17, 2026 notice says the game requires AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), Intel Skylake (2015), or newer GPU architecture. This is an architecture floor, not a replacement for the full graphics specification in the requirements table.
| Category in Blizzard’s notice | Examples named by Blizzard | How to interpret the example |
|---|---|---|
| Supported architecture examples | AMD Radeon HD 7850; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9xx and GTX 750/750 Ti; Intel HD Graphics 530 | These architectures are recognized, but Blizzard explicitly says the example cards remain well below the game’s Minimum requirements. |
| Unsupported examples | AMD Radeon HD 6950; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760, 770, 780 and GTX 8xxM; Intel HD Graphics 6000 | Cards in these examples fail the architecture check described in the notice. |
That distinction explains why a card can be from a supported generation and still fail the complete Minimum row—for example, because it has less than 3 GB of graphics memory or lacks the required DirectX 12 capability and driver support. Conversely, a newer-sounding product label does not prove that the exact model meets every listed condition.
Why Blizzard changed the architecture requirement
The notice says the visual update relies on RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders. Blizzard Entertainment describes the purpose this way: “This change helps support the updated visual look of World of Warcraft and provides a more consistent experience for players.” The technical explanation is useful when evaluating older cards: architecture compatibility is a prerequisite for the rendering path, while the requirements table still determines the complete tier.
Storage, internet, display and input details
Storage
Windows lists 128 GB available in both tiers, with an SSD explicitly listed for Recommended and an HDD-performance caveat on the page. Mac lists 100 GB available for Minimum and 100 GB available SSD for Recommended. These are free-space requirements. A drive with the nominal capacity but insufficient free space does not satisfy the entry.

Internet
Both platform tables specify broadband internet. The requirement does not state a particular download speed, latency target or data allowance, so those figures should not be invented. A connection that is technically broadband can still experience interruptions for reasons outside the hardware specification.

Display
Windows lists 1280 × 720 as the minimum display resolution in both tiers. Mac lists 1024 × 768. These values describe the minimum display requirement; they are not a promise that the game will render at that resolution or at a particular quality setting on every machine.
Input
A keyboard and mouse are required on the Windows Minimum row and listed for Mac. Windows Recommended adds a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel, which matters for an ability-heavy interface and should be included when you price a complete setup.

Use a specification checklist, not a product slogan
- Match the processor’s physical core count, clock target and generation to the Windows Recommended row.
- Verify the exact GPU model, architecture family, DirectX 12 capability, graphics-memory capacity and manufacturer driver support.
- Confirm installed system RAM against the Recommended row.
- Confirm at least the required free SSD space after the operating system and other applications are installed.
- Check that the listing identifies the operating-system edition and 64-bit status.
- Make sure the system includes or supports a keyboard, a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel and broadband access.
Ask the seller for part numbers when a listing omits them. “RTX,” “Ryzen,” “gaming PC” and similar labels cover many generations and performance levels; they are not substitutes for a model number or VRAM capacity.
Buying new
For a new Windows system, reject any configuration that misses one Recommended component merely because another component is stronger. A high-end GPU paired with a processor below the recommended generation, or a fast processor paired with a lower-memory GPU, is not a match for the target tier. If the listing does not state a value, treat it as unknown and obtain confirmation before purchase.

Buying used
Request a screenshot or system report showing the exact CPU, GPU, RAM and operating system. Check the GPU through one of Blizzard’s specified Windows paths, then verify the architecture notice and the full Minimum graphics line. Inspect available SSD space on the actual installation drive, because a used machine may have less free capacity than its original specification.
Upgrading an existing machine
Find the first failed Minimum entry and address that bottleneck rather than replacing parts at random. A graphics upgrade must still be checked for architecture, DirectX 12 capability, VRAM and driver support. A memory upgrade does not fix an unsupported GPU, and installing an SSD does not change CPU or graphics eligibility.

A practical decision workflow
- Select the platform table. Use Windows or Mac based on the operating system you will actually run.
- Write down exact models. Include CPU model, GPU model, GPU memory, RAM, drive type and OS version.
- Apply the GPU architecture notice. If the architecture is unsupported, stop; another component cannot make that card compliant.
- Compare every Minimum cell. Mark each as met, failed or not stated. “Not stated” is not proof of compliance.
- Choose your result. All Minimum entries met means the PC is within Blizzard’s stated compatibility floor. Any failed entry means it is below that floor. A new purchase should also match every Recommended entry.
- Recheck before installing. Confirm free space, drivers and operating-system details at the time of installation because the official page is live.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: judging by the GPU family name
Fix: obtain the exact model and compare architecture, VRAM and DirectX 12 capability. A supported architecture example can still be below Minimum.
Mistake: treating recommended as a benchmark
Fix: use Recommended as a purchasing target, not an FPS promise. Blizzard’s cited pages do not publish frame-rate tests or graphics-setting comparisons.
Mistake: checking total drive capacity
Fix: check free space on the installation drive and prefer an SSD where Blizzard lists one, especially for the Recommended configuration.
Mistake: translating Windows requirements to a Mac
Fix: use the separate Mac table, including its Apple silicon, Intel, Metal-capable GPU, macOS and memory entries.
Mistake: ignoring peripherals and resolution
Fix: confirm the required keyboard and mouse, broadband connection and the correct platform display minimum before declaring the setup ready.
What the official specifications do not establish
The requirements pages do not provide independent FPS results, a guaranteed graphics preset, comparative rankings among PC models, or a tested experience for every CPU/GPU combination. They also do not state a particular broadband speed or latency value. Any buying decision that needs those answers requires separate testing for the exact hardware and settings; the requirement tiers alone cannot supply it.
