In the Phase 8 guide for WoW Classic Season of Discovery, Tailoring remains capped at 300 (Artisan). For a rough 1–300 materials plan, budget about 200 Linen Cloth, 135 Wool Cloth, 804 Silk Cloth, 500 Mageweave Cloth, 1,000 Runecloth, and 100 Rugged Leather. These are estimates, not guaranteed totals: skill-ups from yellow and green recipes vary. Wowhead’s Phase 8 guide was updated in 2025 and covers patch 1.15.8; check phase-sensitive recipes and item names in your current game client.
Tailoring ranks and training levels
Tailoring’s rank bands describe profession skill, while the level requirements describe your character. Keep the two thresholds separate when planning training.

| Rank | Tailoring skill band | Earliest character level to train |
|---|---|---|
| Initial rank | 1–75 | 1 |
| Journeyman | 75–150 | 50 |
| Expert | 150–225 | 125 |
| Artisan | 225–300 | 200; Artisan-specific training is also reported as available at level 41 with 200 Tailoring skill |
The Phase 8 guide gives the Artisan requirement as character level 41 plus 200 Tailoring skill. Because the guide presents this separately from its rank-band training levels, confirm the available training option with the trainer in game. It names Timoteo Valión in Theramore Isle for Alliance and Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill for Horde. Wowhead’s Season of Discovery Tailoring guide
Approximate materials for Tailoring 1–300
The Classic leveling guide’s approximate shopping list is a planning baseline, not a fixed recipe order or guarantee of reaching 300.

Yellow and green recipes have a lower or variable chance to grant a skill point, so your actual consumption may be higher or lower. Some recipes also call for extra items such as vendor-bought dyes; those are not included in the overall totals. Your route, faction, existing stock, recipe access, and realm market all affect what you need. The source does not provide current realm prices, so treat the list as quantities rather than a cost estimate. WoW-Professions’ Classic Tailoring leveling guide
How to plan the leveling route
- Train the next rank when eligible. Use your current Tailoring skill and character level to check rank access; the skill band alone does not establish character-level eligibility.
- Check the recipe’s current skill-up color. Yellow and green crafts are less dependable for skill points than recipes with a more favorable color, so avoid buying exactly the listed totals as if every craft will skill up.
- Compare the practical costs on your realm. Consider cloth and additional ingredient prices, pattern availability, and whether the crafted items are useful to you or likely to sell. No single route can be called cheapest across realms based on the available price information.
- Recheck requirements and materials before crafting. Vendor ingredients and recipe-specific items may be outside the headline cloth-and-leather totals.
Profession pairing and material gathering
Tailoring’s main input is cloth, and the Classic leveling source says collecting that material does not require a gathering profession. You can pair Tailoring with any gathering profession; Enchanting is also a popular pairing noted by the source. The right choice depends on how you want to use your character and which materials or crafts you value.
Phase 8 cap and Scarlet Uniform recipes
The Phase 8 guide reports that the profession cap remains Artisan (300) and adds Scarlet Uniform patterns. It lists pieces including a hood, mantle, vestments, bracers, mittens, belt, leggings, and boots, with ingredients that include Runecloth, Hero’s Blood, and Righteous Orbs in varying quantities. The guide says the patterns drop in New Avalon and also lists tailoring quests and pattern rewards there. Exact availability and localized item names can differ in presentation, so verify the current recipe and its requirements in your client before farming or buying materials. Why older cap information may not match Phase 8
Blizzard’s Phase 2 announcement said professions would be capped at 225 for that phase, with specializations opening later in Phase 3. That is historical phase-specific information, not the Phase 8 cap. For the later state, the Phase 8 guide reports a 300 Artisan cap. Blizzard’s Phase 2 announcement
