The title’s “four new dungeons” line refers to an earlier internal pitch, but the original interview and its full context are not established by the available reporting here. That means the scope growth is clear from Blizzard’s announcement; the exact quote’s speaker, timeline, and reasons for the change should not be stated as verified.
What Blizzard has announced for WoW: Forever
Blizzard presents Forever as a continuing exploration of original Azeroth informed by WoW Classic and Season of Discovery. Its four stated pillars are approachability and familiarity, making the world the main character, valuing the journey, and protecting social play. Blizzard says leveling, effort, preparation, communication, and cooperation will remain central. Blizzard’s official panel recap is the source for the announced feature list.

Azeroth, quests, and dungeons
The recap announces more than a thousand new quests across the level 1–60 journey, alongside new and reimagined regions. It names a new playable race, the Skyborne, with class access differing by faction.

These are announced plans and counts, not independently audited measurements.

Raids, battleground, and other systems
The planned raids are Hyjal Summit, with 20-player encounters, and Barrow Deeps, a maximum-level challenge for 10 players. The Darkspear Islands battleground is described as 15-versus-15.
Other announced features include Legacy progression for alternate characters, outdoor Camping, opt-in transmog, visual presets, HD and SD character-model options, and official gamepad support. Blizzard’s published roadmap says the global launch is planned for November 4, 2026, with beta beginning September 17; it lists new raids unlocking December 9 and says further updates will follow. Roadmap dates are announcement-era plans and can change.

What the “four new dungeons” line does—and does not—establish
The article title presents an internal starting point of four new dungeons and says the list of changes “snowballed” as Blizzard became more excited. However, the original interview or report containing the full quotation was not located in the available source material. The quote’s speaker, when it was said, what “four new dungeons” covered, and what specifically prompted the scope to grow therefore remain unverified. Blizzard’s current recap establishes a nine-dungeon announcement, but it does not by itself confirm the earlier pitch or explain the decision-making sequence.
That distinction matters: the announced scope is a concrete list of plans, while the internal pitch is a reported account of how the project developed. Without the source context, it would be misleading to attribute a particular motive or chronology to the developers.

The design direction developers have described
Level 60 and horizontal progression
In a September 22, 2026 interview with Windows Central, lead game designer Tim Jones and lead software engineer Nora Valleta describe a level-60 cap and horizontal progression. The interview says the Legacy system is meant to reward playing alternate characters, while the team wants content to matter across character levels instead of concentrating activity solely at level 60.
Class options and Classic-style play
Jones told Windows Central: “Every single one of our 27 talent trees is now viable for all content in WoW: Forever.” He also qualified that claim: the trees are not all equal and retain different strengths and weaknesses. This is a developer’s description of the intended balance state, not independent evidence of how every build will perform after release.

Valleta described Classic play as more social and focused on the world, including exploring and physically traveling to dungeons. In a separate September 2026 interview, lead software engineer Ana Resendez and associate production director Clayton Stone characterized the team’s initial approach as comparatively conservative after player feedback on Season of Discovery. They said they want encounters to feel challenging while remaining grounded in Classic. That interview also reported fixed raid sizes rather than flexible scaling at the time; those comments describe development direction and could evolve. But Why Tho?’s interview contains that account.

Forever is being framed as a Classic-rooted continuation built around the original world, leveling, travel, and social cooperation, but its announced content footprint is substantial. The developers’ stated aims include keeping progression centered on level 60, supporting alternate characters, and making talent trees viable across content. Those are design intentions, not guarantees about the final balance or how the game will feel in practice. The precise story behind the four-dungeon pitch remains a separate claim that needs the original interview context before it can be treated as confirmed.
