To unlock Gnomeregan’s Phase 2 crafted gear in World of Warcraft Season of Discovery, use Grime-Encrusted Salvage on the Salvagematic 9000 inside the raid, complete its repair quest chain, and return the required materials to Ziri. The resulting recipes cover several professions, but the gear is Bind on Pickup and requires the matching profession skill to wear—so check the restrictions and item drawbacks before investing.
What the Gnomeregan crafting chain unlocks
Season of Discovery Phase 2 added a profession quest chain tied to Gnomeregan. Blizzard described the raid as a level-40, 10-player instance with six bosses, and said the new profession chain would lead to materials for crafting more powerful items. Blizzard’s Phase 2 launch notes also said players could discover approximately 20 new recipes across non-gathering professions, with professions capped at 225 for that phase. Those are Phase 2 launch details, not confirmation of current live-game availability.
The chain repairs the Salvagematic 9000. Completing it unlocks recipes and lets the machine process Grime-Encrusted Salvage into a Box of Gnomeregan Salvage. The detailed route and drop mechanics below are reported in Wowhead’s Gnomeregan crafted gear guide, which is marked updated February 20, 2024, and identifies Patch 1.15.8. Check the current game if a patch has changed a drop or quest step.
How to unlock the recipes
- Get Grime-Encrusted Salvage. Wowhead reports that it can drop from Gnomeregan trash and some bosses.
- Start the repair quest. Inside Gnomeregan, use the salvage on the Salvagematic 9000 and pay 30 silver. This triggers the machine’s repair quest.
- Collect the repair materials. The listed request is 10 Mithril Bars, five Greater Mystic Essence, three GG12-082 Cartridge Fuses, and a Pristine G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor.
- Complete the processor quest leg. The guide’s route begins outside the raid with Techbot’s Corroded G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor and continues through quests involving Scooty and Wirdal Wondergear. It includes obtaining a Spent Voidcore and a Mote of Darkness to make a Charged Voidcore.
- Return the materials to Ziri. Completing the repair chain unlocks the recipes. The Salvagematic can then turn Grime-Encrusted Salvage into a Box of Gnomeregan Salvage.
Which professions make the gear
The table summarizes the gear and components listed in Wowhead’s guide. Effects are the guide’s descriptions, not independent testing or a current item-data audit. Wowhead says the crafted items are Bind on Pickup and require skill in the corresponding profession to wear. Some listed crafts are components or recipes rather than wearable gear.

How to choose a craft for your character
There is no universal best-in-slot ranking established by the guide. Match the effect to your role and specialization, then weigh when it activates, how long it lasts, and any cost to survivability or movement. A speed or damage effect that comes with self-damage may be unsuitable when survival matters more than a short burst; a defensive effect may be useful only when its protection answers a real encounter mechanic.

- Check profession access first: the guide says you need the corresponding profession skill to wear the crafted items, and they are Bind on Pickup.
- Read the full effect and drawback: movement penalties, self-damage, and increased damage taken can outweigh a temporary offensive benefit.
- Match the effect to the encounter: poison removal, brief Nature immunity, interruption protection, or extra damage against mechanical creatures are situational tools, not automatic upgrades.
- Separate gear from components: several entries in the list are materials used in crafting rather than equipment for a character to wear.
