For low-stakes mystery-solving, start with Little Problems: A Cozy Detective Game; for trick shots in a city setting, try Disc Golf City. Those two distinctive hooks lead a wider selection of action, roguelike, co-op and narrative games in Kris Holt’s September 13, 2025, Engadget indie-game roundup. Its release details are a snapshot from that date, not a verified guide to what is available in 2026.
Two games with unusually clear hooks
Little Problems: A Cozy Detective Game turns everyday hassles into cases
Engadget describes Little Problems as slice-of-life detective play, following Mary, a freshman student who investigates misunderstandings and small inconveniences. In one example, Mary has forgotten where her study group is meeting. The article reports ten cases, each with puzzles, and mechanics that start simply and develop playful twists.
That premise makes it a natural pick if you want gentle, everyday mystery-solving rather than a crime-focused setup. “Cozy” here describes the low-stakes situations in the roundup’s account; it should not be taken as a guarantee about every aspect of the game.
Disc Golf City makes the surroundings part of the shot
The other standout is Disc Golf City, which moves disc golf onto colorful urban courses. As described in the roundup, you can bounce discs off environmental objects to set up trick shots before aiming for the basket. That gives the game an “urban course” feel: the city is not just scenery, but part of the shot-making idea.

Engadget reported that the game had left Early Access on Steam and was available for PC, Mac and Linux on September 13, 2025, and mentioned a demo. Those are historical details, not confirmed current listing information. Check the original roundup for what it reported; confirm present platform, release, demo and price details on the game’s current store listing before deciding to buy.
More games in the roundup, by the kind of play you want
The same September 2025 article ranged well beyond cozy mysteries and sports. These descriptions help identify the kind of game each may suit, but they do not establish its current release status or availability.
| Game | What the roundup describes | Consider it if you want |
|---|---|---|
| Beyond Sunset | A cyberpunk first-person shooter with RPG elements. | Fast action in a science-fiction setting. |
| Katanaut | A roguelite with changing paths and progression. | Runs that vary and build on repeated play. |
| Hades II | Included in the roundup’s broader selection. | Another action game to investigate; the article’s mention alone does not establish its current status. |
| Lynked: Banner of the Spark | Included in the roundup’s broader selection. | A different indie pick beyond the lead mystery and disc-golf hooks. |
| Popucom | Included in the roundup’s broader selection. | A different style of game from the roundup’s mix. |
The article also covered announced or forthcoming projects, including Pacific Drive’s Whispers in the Woods expansion and projects shown at an Acclaim showcase: GridBeat, Basketball Classics for consoles, Pixel Washer and HyperYuki: Snowboard Syndicate. Treat those as announcements and schedules reported in 2025, not as a 2026 release calendar. Holt’s full roundup provides the original context for those mentions.
How to choose between them
- Pick a play loop: Little Problems is organized around case puzzles; Disc Golf City emphasizes experimenting with disc shots; the action and roguelite picks focus on combat or repeatable runs.
- Match the mood: Mary’s everyday problems point toward a gentler mystery, while a first-person shooter or roguelite suggests more action and pressure.
- Think about sessions: The reported case structure gives Little Problems a clear puzzle-by-puzzle shape. The sports and combat descriptions suggest different kinds of replay, but the roundup does not specify session lengths.
- Verify before buying: The source is dated September 13, 2025, and current listings were not independently confirmed here. Check each game’s store page for platform, release status, price, demo availability, controller support and accessibility options.
Want to try disc golf outside the game?
A real-world starter set is an optional extension for readers curious about the sport, not equipment for playing Disc Golf City. A matching-title GeekChamp page describes an Innova three-disc set with a driver, mid-range and putter. Its current listing and availability are not confirmed, so check the retailer’s page before relying on those details. The game itself and an actual disc-golf starter set are separate purchases.
