wwapi.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system DLL, and its description is WWAN API. If Windows reports that wwapi.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
WWAN means Wireless Wide Area Network, which includes cellular and mobile broadband networking. The file is part of Windows itself, not a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX package, .NET runtime, or separately downloadable application.

Identify the file before repairing it

A 10.0.15063.0 64-bit copy is associated with an older Windows 10-era build. It is not a universal current version, so do not replace your file simply because a website lists a higher or lower number.
To inspect the file:
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter
%windir%System32in the address bar. - Search for
wwapi.dll. - If present, right-click it and select Properties.
- Open Details and check File description, Product name, and File version.
- Open Digital Signatures and inspect the signer if that tab is available.
A copy in an arbitrary download, temporary, or application folder deserves extra scrutiny. A legitimate Windows copy normally belongs beneath the Windows directory.

What the error messages mean
You may see one of these loader messages:
- “The program can’t start because wwapi.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because wwapi.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading wwapi.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “wwapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The exact wording depends on the Windows version and the program displaying the error.
“ The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that wwapi.dll itself is absent. The file may exist while another DLL or system dependency required by it is missing, damaged, or incompatible. Record the complete message, the affected application, the Windows version, and the path shown in any event details before making changes.
Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
Because wwapi.dll is a Windows component, start with Windows servicing.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- On Windows 10, select Update & Security, then Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Open the affected application again.
If the error disappears, the missing or damaged component was likely restored by servicing. If Windows Update fails, note the displayed error and continue with the repair commands below.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Microsoft recommends running Deployment Image Servicing and Management, or DISM, before System File Checker. DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses to restore protected files. Microsoft’s System File Checker guidance documents this sequence.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window because progress may pause for a while.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
A successful result usually says that SFC found no integrity violations, or that it found and repaired corrupt files. If SFC says it could not repair some files, do not repeatedly run the same command without investigating. Check the log with:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >"%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
Open sfcdetails.txt on the desktop and look for entries concerning the failed repair.

If DISM cannot find repair files, use a genuine Windows installation source matching the installed edition, language, architecture, and build:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the correct path to that source. Microsoft explains the component store and repair sources in its component store documentation.

Repeatedly hunting through folders and rerunning SFC or DISM can make it difficult to tell what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying Windows issues and show what needs attention; repairs are performed by the full version, but it is not required and Microsoft’s built-in repair commands remain the correct first step.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Microsoft Defender or another security product may have quarantined the file. Do not restore a detection just because the filename looks familiar.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection associated with
wwapi.dll. - Check the original file path and detection details.
- Restore or allow the file only if it was the genuine Microsoft file in the expected Windows directory and you have strong evidence of a false positive.
- If the file was in a temporary or application folder, leave it quarantined and run a full scan.
The Microsoft Protection History instructions explain how to review these events. If malware may have modified system files, repair Windows with DISM and SFC rather than copying the quarantined file back manually.
Fix 4: Repair the application that reports the error
If only one program displays the message while Windows and other applications work normally, the application may have damaged files, an outdated launcher, or a missing dependency.
Use the program’s official repair process:
- Close the affected program.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings.
- For a traditional desktop program, open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select the program and look for Repair or Change.
- If neither option works, uninstall it.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it using the developer’s official installer.
For a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or equivalent file-validation command before reinstalling. Reinstalling the application is the definitive fix when its own installation is damaged, but it should not involve copying a random wwapi.dll into the program folder.
Fix 5: Check mobile broadband and related drivers
wwapi.dll is associated with Windows WWAN functionality. If the error appeared after connecting a cellular modem, installing a mobile broadband device, or changing networking hardware, inspect the relevant driver.

- Also inspect Modems, Ports (COM & LPT), and Other devices.
- Look for a warning icon or an unidentified cellular or mobile broadband device.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the connection or application.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, open the device’s Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver, if available. Otherwise, uninstall the device from Device Manager, restart, and install the driver supplied by the computer, modem, or adapter manufacturer.
Avoid replacing a Windows system DLL to compensate for a device driver problem. Check 32-bit and 64-bit paths
On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains native 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 contains many 32-bit system components used by 32-bit applications. The names are counterintuitive, so do not infer architecture from the folder name alone.
A 32-bit application can need the 32-bit Windows component even on a 64-bit computer. Conversely, a 64-bit program needs the 64-bit component. Do not copy a file from another Windows release, another architecture, or another computer merely because its filename matches.

wwapi.dll and wwanapi.dll are different
wwapi.dll and wwanapi.dll are separate Windows files. They are not interchangeable and should never be renamed or substituted for one another.
wwapi.dll is identified as WWAN API. wwanapi.dll is associated with the Mobile Broadband or Mbnapi stack. If an error names one file, repair or investigate that exact file and its dependencies.
Do not use regsvr32 for this DLL
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM DLLs that expose a DllRegisterServer entry point. wwapi.dll is a system API DLL and should not normally be registered this way.

Running this command:
regsvr32 wwapi.dll
commonly produces:
The module “wwapi.dll” was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
That message does not indicate that registration is needed. It indicates that the DLL does not provide the registration entry point expected by regsvr32. Microsoft describes the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 documentation.
Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after a Windows update, driver installation, or major system change, System Restore may be appropriate.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Save open work and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally affects system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs, not personal documents. Microsoft provides additional System Restore guidance.

Do not download wwapi.dll from a random DLL website. A replacement may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to another Windows build, lack a valid signature, or fail to repair the missing dependency that caused the error.
Do not copy an unknown DLL into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory. Do not disable antivirus protection to make a download work, and do not install Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET solely because wwapi.dll is missing. There is no verified standalone Microsoft redistributable for this file.

If every repair fails
If Windows Update, DISM, SFC, quarantine checks, application repair, and System Restore do not resolve the issue:
- Back up important files.
- Record the exact error, affected program, Windows edition, architecture, file path, and file properties.
- Check whether other Windows system files are also failing.
- Investigate disk or filesystem damage if files repeatedly disappear or become corrupt. Back up first before using repair commands such as
chkdsk /f C:. - Use a Windows repair installation from official Microsoft media.
- If a repair installation is not possible, reinstall Windows as a last resort.
- If BitLocker is enabled, confirm that you have the recovery key before changing the installation.
A repair installation is preferable to manually replacing a system DLL because it restores Windows components from a matching, trusted source.
FAQ
Is wwapi.dll safe?
The filename belongs to a legitimate Microsoft Windows component, but any file with that name is not automatically trustworthy. Check its location, properties, and digital signature. A copy outside the Windows directory may be an impostor.
Do I need to install a Microsoft redistributable?
No verified standalone Microsoft wwapi.dll redistributable is available. Use Windows Update, DISM, and SFC to repair the operating-system component.
Can I download and replace the file?
Do not use random DLL download sites sites. Repair Windows from its component store, a matching installation source, or official installation media.
Why does the message say the module is missing when the file exists?
The named DLL may depend on another missing or damaged module. Check the application’s event details, repair Windows, and repair the affected application rather than assuming the named file is the only problem.

It can if only that program is damaged. If several programs report the error, or Windows itself has integrity problems, use Windows servicing instead.
What information should I provide when asking for help?
Provide the exact error text, affected application, Windows version and architecture, whether the issue began after an update or driver change, the file’s full path, and its Properties details. Avoid posting personal data or product keys.
