Direct answer
wwwplugin.dll is not a standard Windows component. It is associated in public file records with an obscure third-party program called DialerData Module, whose current publisher, installer, and support status are not verified.
Do not download wwwplugin.dll from a random DLL website or copy it into C:WindowsSystem32. The safest fix is to identify the application requesting the file, then repair or reinstall that application from its original source. If the application is unknown or unwanted, uninstall it and scan Windows for malware.
File identification
| Detail | Best-supported information |
|---|---|
| Filename | wwwplugin.dll |
| Reported description | DialerData Module |
| Reported parent product | DialerData Module |
| Windows component | No evidence that it belongs to Windows |
| Publisher | Unknown or blank |
| Architecture | A third-party catalog reports 32-bit, but this is not independently verified |
| Version and size | Catalog metadata exists, but it is not an authoritative specification |
| Official download | No verified vendor download was found |
Commonly reported wording includes:
- “This application failed to start because wwwplugin.dll was not found.”
- “The file wwwplugin.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: wwwplugin.dll.”
- “Error loading wwwplugin.dll.”
- “wwwplugin.dll is not designed to run on Windows.”
These messages do not identify the correct replacement file. They only show that a program attempted to load a DLL and Windows could not use the copy it found.
1. Identify the application that needs the file
Before repairing anything, determine which executable is producing the error. A DLL filename alone is not enough to identify the correct installer.

If the program is still running
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select the Processes tab.
- Find the program associated with the error.
- Right-click it and choose Open file location.
- Note the executable name and the folder containing it.
Then check whether that program appears in the installed applications list:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Apps.
- Open Installed apps.
- Search for the application name.
- Also check Control Panel > Programs and Features if it is not listed in Settings.
Write down the application name, its installation folder, and where you obtained it. This information determines whether repair, reinstallation, or removal is appropriate.
Search for the DLL
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Search for
wwwplugin.dll. - For each result, right-click the file and select Properties.
- Record the Location, File version, Details, and Digital Signatures tabs.
A legitimate application DLL would normally be beside the application executable or inside one of that program’s subfolders. Windows searches the application’s directory during normal DLL loading, so the file does not normally need to be placed in a Windows system directory. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order documentation.
Treat the file as suspicious if it is located in:
- A temporary folder
- The Downloads folder
- A random folder under your user profile
- An unfamiliar startup folder
- A directory unrelated to the program showing the error
Do not open or run a suspicious DLL just to test it. Scan it first.
2. Use the application’s repair or verification option
The parent application is the most likely source of the missing file. If it has a built-in repair function, use that before attempting broader Windows repairs.
Look for one of these options:
- Repair
- Verify files
- Scan and repair
- Check installation
- Restore installation
- Update
The location varies by application. Common places include the program’s launcher, its Help menu, or its entry in Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
For an application with Windows repair controls:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the program again after Windows finishes.
Microsoft provides additional guidance for repairing applications in its program installation and removal troubleshooting instructions.
How to tell whether repair worked
The repair succeeded if:
- The application opens without the
wwwplugin.dllmessage. - The DLL is present in the application’s installation folder.
- The program’s launcher no longer reports missing files.
- The program can perform its normal functions.
If the same message returns, the installation may be incomplete, the DLL may have been quarantined, or another dependency may be missing. Continue with the next steps rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

3. Reinstall the exact parent application
If repair is unavailable or fails, reinstall the application from its original developer, publisher, game launcher, or installation media. Do not use a generic DLL archive as the installer.
First, save any settings or data that belong to the application. Then:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate the application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Download or locate the installer from the original source.
- Install the same application again.
- Apply its available updates.
- Start the program and test it.
If the application is not listed in Settings, open Control Panel:
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the relevant program.
- Choose Uninstall.
If you no longer want the application
Uninstalling is safer than trying to preserve an unknown legacy program by replacing one missing DLL. Remove the parent application, restart Windows, and run a full security scan.
Do not delete only wwwplugin.dll while leaving an unknown startup entry or program behind. The DLL may be one part of a larger installation.
4. Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Antivirus software may have removed the file because it was damaged, unsigned, obsolete, or detected as unsafe. Quarantine does not prove that the DLL was malware, but an unknown publisher means you should not restore it casually.
To inspect Microsoft Defender’s records:
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review entries matching the time the application stopped working.
- Expand any relevant entry and note the file path and detection details.
Microsoft explains how Protection History handles quarantined and blocked files in its Windows Security Protection History guidance.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are satisfied:
- You know which application installed it.
- The path matches that application’s installation directory.
- The application came from a trustworthy original source.
- The file’s properties and signature are consistent with that installation.
- You have ruled out a compromise.
If you cannot verify those points, leave the file quarantined, uninstall the associated application, and scan the computer.
Run a full scan
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options.
- Select Full scan.
- Click Scan now.
- Follow the recommended action after the scan completes.
If you suspect active malware, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same Scan options page. Microsoft describes the available scan modes in its Defender scanning options.

5. Check whether the application was moved
A program can lose access to its DLLs if someone copied only the executable, moved the application folder, restored an incomplete backup, or launched it from a different directory.
Check the application’s shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Review Target and Start in.
- Confirm that the target points to the original installation folder.
If the target points to a removable drive, temporary folder, old backup, or manually copied directory, restore the complete installation or reinstall the application.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not solve this by copying wwwplugin.dll into several folders. The application may require additional files, registry settings, configuration data, or a matching version of the DLL.
6. Consider 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
One public file record reports that wwwplugin.dll is a 32-bit Win32 DLL, but that classification is third-party metadata rather than an independently verified specification.
A 64-bit program generally cannot load a 32-bit DLL as its normal in-process dependency. A damaged file or wrong-architecture replacement can also produce:
This application was unable to start correctly.
or:
The program or feature cannot start because the file is not designed to run on Windows.

The correct response is to install the proper build of the parent application and its complete dependencies. Do not download a similarly named 64-bit or 32-bit file and substitute it.
Windows also separates 32-bit and 64-bit system components through filesystem redirection. Microsoft explains this behavior in its filesystem redirector documentation.
7. Do not assume Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET will restore it
There is no verified evidence connecting wwwplugin.dll to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or Windows Update.
Installing Microsoft runtimes can fix other application errors, but it will not normally recreate a third-party DLL that belonged to a particular application. If the error names a missing runtime such as a Visual C++ component, use Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable downloads and select the architecture required by the application.

8. Repair broader Windows corruption only when symptoms justify it
If only one obsolete application reports wwwplugin.dll, Windows itself is unlikely to be the cause. Use system repair commands when several Windows features are failing, protected system files are damaged, or other applications show similar corruption.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run these commands in order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish before running the next. Restart Windows afterward.
Microsoft states that DISM repairs the Windows image and System File Checker checks protected system files. These commands are unlikely to recreate wwwplugin.dll, because it is attributed to a third-party application rather than Windows. See Microsoft’s System File Checker instructions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting harder. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what it finds, while its repair functions require the full version; reinstalling the parent application remains the definitive fix for this file.
What success looks like
After the commands finish:
- Windows reports that repairs completed, or
- Windows reports that no integrity violations were found, and
- Other Windows symptoms improve after restarting.
If the commands report that files could not be repaired, save the result and return to repairing or removing the application that requests wwwplugin.dll.
9. Update drivers only when the error points to a driver-related program
wwwplugin.dll is not identified as a driver. Device Manager is therefore not a primary fix for this file. Driver work is relevant only if the failing program is tied to a device, hardware utility, audio package, graphics tool, or other vendor component.
To check for driver problems:
- Right-click Start.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand categories related to the failing application.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General and Driver tabs.
- Install updates from the hardware manufacturer when appropriate.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove a device driver merely because wwwplugin.dll is missing. Confirm that the driver and application are actually related.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify the versions involved; the driver installation feature requires the full version. For this specific DLL, repairing or reinstalling the parent program is still the definitive fix.

Do not copy the DLL into System32
C:WindowsSystem32 is not a universal storage location for application DLLs. Copying an application file there can create version conflicts, load the wrong architecture, and obscure which program actually owns the file.
Keep application DLLs with the application unless the original installer explicitly specifies another location.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic repair
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. Most ordinary application and runtime DLLs do not need registration.
Running commands such as these is not a general solution:
regsvr32 wwwplugin.dll
It may produce another error, change nothing, or create confusion about the actual problem. Microsoft documents the command’s intended scope in its regsvr32 documentation.
Do not use random DLL download sites
An untrusted download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, a different version, or a file with a misleading name. Even a clean copy may not fix the missing dependency, registration, configuration, or installer damage that caused the error.
The safe source is the original application’s developer, publisher, launcher, installation media, or verified backup.
If the error still cannot be resolved

- Check the DLL’s digital signature.
- Review Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for errors at the same time.

If the application is irreplaceable and no installer remains, use original media, a verified backup, or System Restore. Do not use an arbitrary DLL archive as a substitute.
FAQ
Is wwwplugin.dll part of Windows?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with the reported DialerData Module program, not with Windows, Microsoft runtimes, a standard driver, or a normal system component.
What is DialerData Module?
It is the only consistent product attribution found for the file. Its publisher, installer, purpose, release history, and current support status are not verified.
Should I download wwwplugin.dll?
No. Identify and repair the parent application instead. A manually downloaded DLL may be malicious, incompatible, or unrelated to the missing dependency.

No. The file should normally remain beside the executable or within the application’s own installation directory. System32 is not a general application-DLL repository.
Is the file malware?
The name and unknown publisher justify caution, but they do not prove that the file is malware. Check its location, signature, source, Defender Protection History, and the application that requested it.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
There is no evidence that this particular file belongs to Visual C++ Redistributable. Install runtimes only when the application or its official installer specifically requires them.
What does “not designed to run on Windows” mean?
It usually indicates that the file is damaged, incompatible, the wrong architecture, or not a valid DLL. It does not prove that the file belongs in Windows or that manual replacement is safe.
