If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall that parent application rather than downloading the DLL into a Windows folder.
The filename identifies a wxWidgets 3.1.3 Unicode build made with Microsoft Visual C++. The custom suffix indicates an application- or developer-specific build configuration. It is not a Windows system DLL and is not supplied by Windows in System32 or SysWOW64.

Fix 1: Identify and repair the application
This is the most likely solution because the application, not Windows, normally owns this DLL.
Find the affected program
- Read the title bar of the error dialog.
- Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties.
- Check the Target field on the Shortcut tab.
- Note the executable name and its folder.
- If the error appears during startup, open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Look for the program under Processes or Details.
- Right-click the process and choose Open file location.
The expected DLL is commonly deployed beside the application’s .exe, although the program may use another application-owned subfolder.
Use the program’s repair or verification feature
Close the application and its launcher first. Then use the method that matches your program:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open its launcher.
- Open the program’s settings, management menu, or library entry.
- Look for Verify, Verify integrity, Repair, Scan, or Check files.
- Start the scan and allow it to replace missing files.
- Restart Windows if the launcher requests it.
- Start the application again.
If the program was installed through Settings:
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the affected program.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the program.
- If it still fails, select Reset only after preserving saves and settings, because Reset can remove local application data.
Windows does not offer Repair for every desktop application. If the option is missing, use the program’s original installer or launcher.
Reinstall from the official source
If verification does not restore the file:
- Back up saved games, projects, profiles, and configuration files.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application’s official publisher or project source.
- Install it into a normal application folder.
- Start the program before restoring optional modifications or plug-ins.
A complete reinstall is especially important if the application was interrupted during an update, partially uninstalled, moved to another drive, or restored from a backup.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the DLL
Security software may quarantine a file after an update or after a change in detection rules.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection associated with the affected application.
- Confirm the file path and application name.
- Run a Microsoft Defender scan before restoring anything.
Do not allow or restore the file merely because its filename looks familiar. Restore it only when the path belongs to the expected application and you can obtain a clean replacement from the application’s official installer. If the file was quarantined, reinstalling the parent program is usually safer than restoring the quarantined copy.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFix 3: Check the Visual C++ dependency
wxbase313u_vc_custom.dll is not a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable file. However, the application may also need Microsoft runtime files such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll.
If the error mentions one of those files:
- Determine whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Open Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Download the package required by the application.
- Install the x86 package for a 32-bit application, even on 64-bit Windows.
- Install the x64 package for a 64-bit application.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application.
The Microsoft runtime repairs a missing Microsoft dependency. It does not replace wxbase313u_vc_custom.dll.

If you are unsure which architecture the program uses, check the application’s official documentation or ask its developer. Installing both x86 and x64 redistributables can be appropriate when different applications use different architectures.
Fix 4: Match the wxWidgets build
A replacement DLL must match the executable that loads it. Architecture is only one part of that match. The application may also require the same wxWidgets release, compiler family, Unicode setting, configuration, and release or debug mode.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A 32-bit executable needs a 32-bit wxWidgets DLL. A 64-bit executable needs a 64-bit DLL. A debug DLL is not a substitute for a release DLL, and a DLL from a different wxWidgets version can cause an entry-point error even when the filename appears similar.
If this is a developer-built or unpacked program:
- Obtain the complete release package from the developer.
- Check whether the required DLLs are supposed to be beside the executable.
- Use the developer’s matching wxWidgets build.
- Rebuild the application if the required runtime files were never deployed.
- Copy files only according to the project’s deployment instructions.
Do not mix a DLL from another application with this executable. The custom suffix is a warning that the build may contain local configuration choices.
Fix 5: Check the application folder and permissions
A file can exist but still be unavailable to the program.
- Open the executable’s folder.
- Search that folder and its documented runtime subfolders for
wxbase313u_vc_custom.dll. - If the file is present, right-click it and select Properties.
- Check whether Windows shows an Unblock option on the General tab.
- Select Unblock, if the file came from a trusted official package.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Right-click the application shortcut and choose Run as administrator once for testing.
If running as administrator works, the problem may involve folder permissions, controlled-folder access, or security software. Do not permanently run every application as administrator without understanding why it is needed.
A portable program copied from another computer may be incomplete. Obtain its full distribution instead of copying only the missing DLL.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when the problem is broader
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally cannot recreate a third-party wxWidgets DLL, so use them when several unrelated programs are failing or Windows itself shows corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands complete successfully but the same application still reports the missing DLL, return to repairing or reinstalling that application.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while the actual application package remains incomplete. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and identify repair areas; its full version performs repairs, but reinstalling the program that owns this DLL remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when the application also has hardware errors
Graphics and device drivers are not the primary remedy for a missing wxWidgets DLL. Consider driver work only if the same program also crashes with display, audio, controller, or device errors.
To update a driver manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
For a clean reinstall, select Uninstall device, restart, and install the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official source. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its full version installs updates, but a driver update will not restore a missing application-owned wxWidgets DLL unless a separate hardware problem is also involved.
Fix 8: Check Windows Features only when the application requires one
Do not enable random Windows components for this error. If the application’s documentation specifically requires a Windows feature:
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Enable only the documented feature.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Test the application.
Windows Features do not normally install wxbase313u_vc_custom.dll.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
Unrelated DLL download sites can provide the wrong architecture, an incompatible build, a modified file, or malware. Even a genuine file may not fix the missing dependency that caused the loader error.
Use the application’s official installer, launcher verification, or the developer’s matching wxWidgets build instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Do not place this application DLL in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
System-folder copying can create version conflicts and architecture confusion. Application-local deployment beside the correct executable is the normal approach for a shared wxWidgets build.
Do not use regsvr32 as a general DLL repair command
Ordinary wxWidgets runtime libraries are application dependencies, not COM components. They normally do not need registration.
This command is therefore not a standard fix:
regsvr32 wxbase313u_vc_custom.dll
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. Running it against a normal runtime library can produce an entry-point or registration error.
If the message says “specified module could not be found”
That message does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows can show it when the DLL exists but one of its dependencies is missing.

Check the following in order:
- Confirm the DLL is in the expected application folder.
- Repair or reinstall the complete application.
- Look for a separate error naming
VCRUNTIME140.dll,MSVCP140.dll, or another dependency. - Install the appropriate Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Ask the application developer for its supported dependency list if the error continues.
Avoid replacing individual files repeatedly. The application’s complete package is more reliable than piecemeal copying.
If the message says “not designed to run on Windows”
This usually indicates corruption, truncation, wrong architecture, or an incompatible build rather than simple absence.

Frequently asked questions
Is wxbase313u_vc_custom.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a wxWidgets application library and is normally supplied by the program that uses it.
Can I fix it by installing Visual C++?
Only if the application also lacks a Microsoft runtime dependency. Visual C++ Redistributable packages do not contain or replace this wxWidgets DLL.
Should I install both x86 and x64 runtimes?
Install the architecture required by the application. It is also normal for a computer running several programs to need both, because 32-bit and 64-bit applications use different packages.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDoes SFC restore this file?
Normally, no. SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components, while this is a third-party application file.
Why does the file exist but Windows still report it as missing?
A dependency may be missing, the DLL may be corrupted, or the DLL may not match the executable’s architecture or build. Repair the entire application rather than copying another version.
Is the file malware?
The filename alone does not establish that. Check its location, the application that installed it, its digital-signature information when available, and Windows Security’s detection details.
What information should I provide when asking for help?
Include the application name, executable path, Windows version, exact error text, whether the program is 32-bit or 64-bit, and what changed immediately before the failure, such as an update, uninstall, quarantine event, disk cleanup, restore, or folder move.
