Microsoft’s final Xbox 360 digital-game discount list arrived before the Xbox 360 Store and Marketplace stopped accepting new purchases on July 29, 2024. The announcement also gave Xbox Series X|S owners an Xbox 360 Blades-themed dynamic background. The discounts are historical, while previously purchased content remained available to play under Microsoft’s stated policy.
Microsoft’s final Xbox 360 digital-game discount list was published ahead of the Xbox 360 Store and Marketplace shutdown on July 29, 2024. The same Xbox Wire announcement introduced an Xbox 360 Blades-themed dynamic background for Xbox Series X|S. The discounts were a 2024 event—not current prices—and the Blades background is a console-personalization feature, not a return of the Xbox 360 storefront or dashboard.

What happened to the Xbox 360 Store?
Microsoft stopped supporting new purchases of Xbox 360 games, downloadable content, and other entertainment content through the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace website on July 29, 2024. Microsoft said that content people had already purchased would remain available to play.
That creates an important distinction:
- Previously purchased content: Microsoft said it would remain available to play, subject to the normal requirements of the account, console, and content.
- New digital purchases: Xbox 360 games, DLC, and other entertainment could no longer be bought through the discontinued Xbox 360 storefront after the shutdown.
- Backward-compatible games: Some Xbox 360 titles can still be purchased or played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but backward compatibility does not cover the entire Xbox 360 catalog.
The final repricing article was first published on May 14, 2024. Microsoft updated the consolidated list on July 16 and later amended it on July 24 to add Charlie Murder, The Dishwasher, and The Dishwasher: VS. Microsoft described the July 16 update as expected to be the final list update; the later amendment added those additional games to the archival list.

The biggest Xbox 360 discounts
Microsoft’s final table showed historical discounts ranging from 40% to 95%. The highest listed reduction was 95%, applied to:
- Dead Island
- Dead Island Riptide
- Metro 2033
- Metro: Last Light
- Full Game – Mighty No. 9
- Homefront
- Red Faction: Guerrilla
- The Evil Within
The 90% group included major catalog titles such as Bulletstorm, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, Dead Rising, several Resident Evil games, Devil May Cry titles, and the later-added Charlie Murder and The Dishwasher games.
Because these offers ended with the 2024 storefront period, the percentages below should be read as an archival record of Microsoft’s table. They do not establish current availability or prices in any particular country or marketplace.

Corrections to earlier copied lists
Microsoft’s final article included editor notes correcting the earlier sale lists. It removed or flagged entries that were erroneous or incompatible with the promotion, including:
Rank #2
- Includes: Microsoft Xbox 360 S (Slim) model; 4GB Internal Storage (extra storage not included, but encouraged for saving and data) -- and 1x Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Black Controller (takes 2x AA, Not Included)
- Also includes up to date HDMI cable, and Power Adapter.
- Disc-Based Game Compatibility – Supports all physical Xbox 360 disc games and SELECT (not all) backward-compatible original Xbox titles.
- Important Online Info – Xbox 360 digital store was discontinued in 2024; online play & downloads still supported for users with pre-2024 Xbox accounts.
- Just Dance Kids 2014
- Need for Speed Undercover
- Burnout 3: Takedown
- Fight Night Round 3
- Space Invaders Infinity Gene
- Bionic Commando Rearmed 2
Microsoft also noted that some games temporarily showed incorrect prices or were absent from the store during the sale period. That is why the final Xbox Wire article is a safer archival reference than lists reproduced from an earlier update.
How to use the Xbox 360 Blades dynamic background
On an Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft’s announced setup path was:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Go to Profile & system.
- Select Settings.
- Choose General.
- Select Personalization.
- Choose My background.
- Select Dynamic backgrounds.
- Under Featured or Xbox dynamic backgrounds, choose Xbox 360 Blades.
- Select the desired artwork with the A button.
The background recreates the visual style of the Xbox 360-era Blades interface as a modern dynamic background. It does not restore the old Xbox 360 dashboard, reopen the Xbox 360 Marketplace, or add Xbox 360 games to a Series X|S.

What can you still play on newer Xbox consoles?
Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S support a selected group of original Xbox and Xbox 360 games through backward compatibility. For supported titles, digital ownership can carry forward to a newer Xbox console. Microsoft has also described improvements for selected games, including Auto HDR, resolution enhancements, faster loading, and FPS Boost.
However, the final Xbox 360 discount list is not a backward-compatibility list. A game appearing in the table does not mean that it runs on Xbox Series X|S. Some digital-only games and other titles remained tied to the original Xbox 360 ecosystem because of licensing, legal, technical, or other compatibility limitations. Microsoft said in 2021 that the backward-compatibility program had reached the practical limit of adding more legacy games.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Available on Xbox 360 | The game was sold for or playable on the original Xbox 360 platform. This says nothing by itself about newer consoles. |
| Backward compatible | Microsoft specifically supports the game on Xbox One and/or Xbox Series X|S. Check the individual title rather than assuming compatibility. |
| Available on Xbox Series X|S | The title can be obtained or played on current hardware through a supported version, backward compatibility, or another modern release. |
Options for games that are not backward compatible
If a title is not supported on newer Xbox hardware, an original console may be the only Xbox route. A used Xbox 360 console can be relevant for preservation, but check the model, region, storage, disc-drive condition, included power supply, and whether the particular game is disc-based or digital-only. A replacement console also does not recreate the discontinued storefront.
Recommended Free Tools
For games released on disc, physical Xbox 360 games may remain an alternative to an unavailable digital purchase. That option does not restore digital-only titles, DLC, delisted content, or online services, and a disc’s compatibility with Xbox One or Series X|S still depends on Microsoft’s supported-title list.
Rank #4
- Microsoft Xbox 360 Matte White 4GB Video Game Console
- Wired controller
- HDMI cable
- Power brick and cable
Series X is relevant to both the Blades background and supported backward-compatible games. A Xbox Series X console should not be treated as a universal Xbox 360 replacement: it cannot play every Xbox 360 game and does not reopen the old store. The Xbox Series S console is digital-only, so it cannot use Xbox 360 game discs; it is relevant only where the game is digitally available and supported on the newer platform.
Owners maintaining an original setup may also need an Xbox 360 controller. Check whether a listing is genuine, refurbished, or third-party and confirm compatibility with the exact console or accessory setup before buying.
What the shutdown means for Xbox 360 preservation
The closure ended new purchases through a major legacy storefront, but it did not instantly make every owned game unplayable. The practical preservation question is now title-specific:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Was the game already purchased? Previously purchased content remained available to play according to Microsoft’s announcement.
- Was it released physically? A disc may provide an alternative, but only if the console, region, required updates, and online features still work.
- Is it backward compatible? If so, verify support for the exact title and edition on Xbox One or Series X|S.
- Does it rely on DLC or servers? Owning the base game does not guarantee that discontinued DLC or online-dependent features can be obtained or used.
The 2024 sale therefore represented a final purchasing opportunity for some games, not a complete preservation solution. Some titles were discounted but still had no modern-console path; others were also available through backward compatibility or physical releases. Current availability must be checked title by title, in the reader’s market, rather than inferred from the historical discount percentage.

Current-status note
This article records Microsoft’s 2024 final discount list and the Blades-background announcement. As of the research date of August 12, 2026, the 2024 sale prices should not be presented as active offers. The Xbox 360 Store and Marketplace purchase shutdown took effect on July 29, 2024. Previously purchased content was the part Microsoft specifically said would remain playable; access to any particular game, DLC item, server, or modern-console version can still vary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you still buy Xbox 360 digital games?

Do all games on the final Xbox 360 discount list work on Xbox Series X|S?
No. The final sale list does not indicate backward compatibility. Only selected Xbox 360 games work on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, so check each title individually.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How do you get the Xbox 360 Blades background on Xbox Series X|S?
On the Series X|S, open the guide and go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Personalization > My background > Dynamic backgrounds. Select Xbox 360 Blades under Featured or Xbox dynamic backgrounds, then choose the artwork with A. Menu names or availability may vary by later software version or market.
The Bottom Line
The Xbox 360’s final digital discount list was a historical 2024 sale, not a current promotion. Existing purchases remained playable, while new Xbox 360 storefront purchases ended on July 29, 2024. The Xbox 360 Blades artwork lives on as a Series X|S dynamic background, but backward compatibility and present-day availability must be verified for each individual game.
