An Xbox achievement can be earned without an immediate notification, and an offline unlock may only appear on Xbox after you reconnect. Check achievement history separately from the notification banner, and treat hiding a game from your profile as a display choice—not a way to erase Xbox activity or control all data sharing.
Can Xbox achievements unlock offline and sync later?
They may. In an official Xbox podcast, Jason Ronald described playing offline, earning achievements, and seeing them appear on the service after reconnecting. That describes an experience, not a guarantee for every game, console generation, or account state. Xbox podcast transcript
Keep offline progress distinct from a confirmed online unlock. A game may track progress locally while you are disconnected, but the available Xbox statement does not establish how every title handles offline achievements or what happens in every sync failure. Reconnect, then check achievement history and Gamerscore rather than relying only on a banner.
Save syncing is a separate feature. Xbox has described saves left on another device syncing when a game launches again, but those save-specific statements do not guarantee achievement synchronization. Xbox Insider update on save sync
Why didn’t my achievement notification pop up?
A missing banner alone does not prove the achievement was not earned. The notification is the on-screen presentation; the achievement record and Gamerscore are separate things to check. Open your Xbox profile’s achievement history and look for the game and achievement there. If the record is absent after reconnecting, the available sources do not provide a universal recovery procedure; behavior can depend on the game and account circumstances.
Notification controls and experiences differ by platform. Xbox’s April 2026 platform update described controls for where Xbox notifications appear in Game Bar, while a separate achievement announcement covered refreshed achievement visuals and profile-history controls. Neither announcement provides one complete menu path for notification toggles across every console, Windows/Game Bar version, and mobile app. Xbox platform update Xbox achievement update
Can I hide a game from my Xbox achievement history?
Xbox announced a hide-game control for achievement history in an April 8, 2026 update. At announcement, select Xbox Insiders could test the changes, with wider availability planned afterward; availability can depend on your device and rollout. Check the current interface on your Xbox profile rather than assuming the option is available to every player.

Hiding a game changes how it appears in achievement history. Xbox says hidden games still count toward Gamerscore and activity in those games continues to be reported across Xbox. The same update also described highlighting games for which all available Gamerscore has been earned. Xbox achievement update

Who can see my Xbox achievements and activity?
Visibility depends on your Xbox privacy settings. Microsoft says activity information can include achievements and may be visible to other players according to those settings. Review the Xbox privacy options for who can see your activity and profile information; hiding an entry in achievement history does not replace those settings or delete platform activity. There is also a distinction between what other players can see and information shared with game publishers. Microsoft says connected game and app publishers receive certain account and gameplay information to deliver, support, and improve their products. The hide-game profile control is not described as a comprehensive privacy control over that sharing. Microsoft Privacy Statement
What to check when an achievement seems missing
- Check the record, not just the banner. Open achievement history and see whether the achievement is listed and whether Gamerscore reflects it.
- If you played offline, reconnect. Xbox has described offline-earned achievements appearing on the service after connection, but does not promise this for every game or circumstance.
- Separate save status from achievement status. Save synchronization information concerns game saves; it does not confirm an achievement has been registered online.
- Check the platform’s notification controls. Console, Game Bar, and mobile experiences are not covered by one universal settings path in the cited Xbox announcements.
- Review privacy separately from profile presentation. Use Xbox privacy settings to manage who can see activity; hiding a game from history only changes its profile presentation as described by Xbox.
What Xbox’s developer policy clarifies—and what it does not
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Development Kit policy says the Xbox network is the source of truth for user profile information and that title caches intended for network disconnection should be updated on the next connection. It also requires progress and achievements to be associated with the user who earned them. This is guidance for developers, not a consumer troubleshooting guarantee or step-by-step recovery method.
