A third project emulates original Xbox games. Their availability, firmware requirements and demonstrated compatibility differ, and the reported results do not show that Xbox or Windows games broadly run well on PS5.
Three projects, three different approaches
The headline’s “message” to Sony is rhetorical: the sources reviewed do not establish that Sony has responded to these projects. The work is happening in the PS5 homebrew scene, and the projects should not be conflated.

| Project | What it does | Public availability and evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Cloud Gaming client | Streams games from a cloud service rather than running their game code on the PS5. | A developer shared an unofficial client for jailbroken PS5. The developer claims 1080p at 60 frames per second with sound and DualSense input, but says testing was limited to one console. These are developer claims, not independent test results. Developer project post |
| Prospero Win | A Windows compatibility runtime intended to run some Windows software on PS5. | Version 0.2.0 appears in the PS5 Homebrew Store catalog. Its notes describe compatibility work, but do not establish that arbitrary Windows games are playable or perform well. Homebrew Store listing |
| XPSemu | An emulator port for playing original Xbox games. | Reported as a PS5 port of the open-source xemu emulator. VideoCardz relayed developer-provided performance figures for selected games; they are not independent benchmarks. VideoCardz report |
| PS5 Proton and Xbox 360 emulation | Separate Windows-gaming and Xbox 360 emulation efforts, respectively. | The October 3 report described PS5 Proton as demonstrated but without a public build, repository, compatibility list or performance figures. Xbox 360 emulation was described as early, also without a public build or compatibility list. VideoCardz report |
What the cloud client does—and what is known about it
The Xbox Cloud Gaming project is a way to stream games to a jailbroken PS5, not an Xbox emulator and not a Windows runtime. Its developer says a Game Pass subscription is required and describes the client as supporting sound and DualSense input. The same developer claims 1080p60 streaming, while disclosing tests on a single PS5 running firmware 13.60. That limited report does not establish performance or reliability on other consoles, networks or firmware versions. The developer’s post is the source for these claims.
What Prospero Win’s release notes establish
Prospero Win v0.2.0 is listed in the PS5 Homebrew Store as a Windows compatibility runtime. The catalog’s release notes describe changes involving 32-bit Windows games, Vulkan traffic, OpenGL through Mesa Zink, and network access. Those are implementation details, not a compatibility guarantee: the listing does not show that any Windows title will work, or provide a broad tested-games list or comparable performance results. The catalog also warns that the application can gain full access to the console and includes an unreviewed helper. Treat that warning as a meaningful security consideration before installing homebrew software. The listing and its warnings provide the available details.

Original Xbox emulation is not Xbox 360 or PC gaming
XPSemu is a separate effort to port the open-source xemu emulator to PS5 so it can emulate original Xbox games. In figures relayed by VideoCardz from the developer, Halo 2 reportedly ran at 30 FPS at stock settings and 36–50 FPS with a 60 FPS patch; Forza Motorsport reportedly ran at 15–21 FPS while racing. These are developer-provided figures reported by VideoCardz, not independent benchmark results, and they describe specific games rather than general compatibility.
The same report drew a line between this public-facing original Xbox project and two less mature efforts: Xbox 360 emulation was described as early and lacking a public build or compatibility list, while PS5 Proton had been demonstrated but had no public build, repository, compatibility list or performance figures. A demonstration is not the same as software owners can install and use.

Firmware determines whether a PS5 can be jailbroken
These projects depend on a jailbroken console; they are not available as ordinary PS5 software. Ars Technica reported that the Relapse exploit supports firmware up to 13.6, while Sony released firmware 14.00.00 in mid-September 2026. That makes firmware version decisive: a PS5 on a newer version should not be assumed to be jailbreakable through this exploit. The report does not support a claim that every PS5—or a current console at arbitrary firmware—can run this homebrew. Ars Technica’s account of Relapse and firmware explains the reported ceiling.

Sony has its own cloud-streaming offering for select PS5 games on PlayStation Portal for PlayStation Plus Premium members. That official feature is distinct from the community-made Xbox Cloud Gaming client: it does not turn the PS5 into an Xbox device or make the homebrew client an official PlayStation feature. Sony’s announcement describes the Portal service and its supported games. PlayStation Blog announcement

What PS5 owners can reasonably conclude
- The Xbox Cloud Gaming client streams a service; Prospero Win is Windows compatibility software; XPSemu emulates the original Xbox. They are not interchangeable.
- The reported work is for jailbroken consoles, and firmware eligibility is a major constraint.
- Only the cloud-client developer’s one-console test and the specific developer-provided XPSemu figures offer performance claims in the cited coverage. Neither is an independent, comparable test across projects.
- Reports of Xbox 360 emulation and PS5 Proton do not establish public, broadly usable releases or broad game compatibility.
