Xbox Cloud Gaming lets you stream supported Xbox games from Microsoft’s servers without installing them locally or owning an Xbox console. In the U.S., paid cloud access currently starts with Xbox Game Pass Essential, while select free-to-play games such as Fortnite can be played with a free Microsoft account. The live catalog is at xbox.com/play; it changes by game, plan, region and platform, so no static list stays complete.
This guide reflects Xbox’s published listings checked in August 2026. Prices and availability can change.

What is Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Cloud gaming runs a game on Microsoft’s remote servers and streams the video to your device. Your controller, touch-screen or other supported input sends commands back to the server. You therefore need a reliable connection, but you do not need to download the full game.

- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
- Cloud Gaming: the game runs on Microsoft’s servers.
- Remote Play: an Xbox console you own runs a game installed on that console and streams it remotely. See Xbox’s mobile gaming explanation.
- Local play: the game is downloaded and runs on your Xbox or PC.
Buying a game, having it in Game Pass and being able to stream it are separate questions.
Xbox Cloud Gaming price in the U.S.
Xbox’s current U.S. listings show three cloud-capable Game Pass plans: Essential, Premium and Ultimate. PC Game Pass is primarily a local-download plan and is not presented as a cloud-gaming plan.
| Plan | U.S. price signal | Cloud gaming | Main differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $9.99 for the first month is shown on the current listing; verify the recurring price at checkout | Yes | 50+ games, online console multiplayer and in-game benefits |
| Premium | $14.99/month; a $1-for-14-days promotion is shown | Yes | 200+ games, selected new Xbox-published games within one year and shorter cloud waits than Essential |
| Ultimate | $22.99/month | Yes | 500+ games, day-one releases, highest stated cloud quality and shortest stated waits, EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics |
| PC Game Pass | $13.99/month; a $1-for-14-days promotion is shown | Not listed as a cloud plan | 300+ PC games, day-one PC games and EA Play for local PC play |
These are approximate library counts, not counts of cloud-streamable games. Promotions may be limited by region or account eligibility and normally convert to recurring billing unless canceled. Check the official plan listing before subscribing.
Microsoft’s April 21, 2026 announcement lists the U.S. Ultimate price at $22.99, down from $29.99, and PC Game Pass at $13.99, down from $16.49. Prices, taxes and offers can change.
What games are on Xbox Cloud Gaming?
The safest current games list is Xbox’s live cloud catalog, not a copied article or fixed spreadsheet. Open it, sign in with the Microsoft account used for Game Pass, browse All games or search for a title, then look for the cloud-play or streaming option on its game card.
Rank #2
- Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).
- Precise control: features Hall joysticks and Hall triggers for a comfortable feeling, long service life and improved game accuracy.
- Plug and Play Convenience: Wired USB connection (removable) for easy setup and instant play without the need for additional drivers.
- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
The catalog separates several kinds of access:
- Game Pass cloud games: included with a qualifying plan and available to stream.
- Free-to-play games: selected titles such as Fortnite can be streamed without a paid Game Pass subscription in supported regions.
- Stream your own game: selected games bought separately can be streamed, even when they are not included in Game Pass.
- Non-cloud Game Pass games: some titles are available only for local console or PC download.
Xbox’s cloud page has recently displayed examples including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, ARK: Ultimate Survivor Edition, Mortal Kombat 11, Grounded, Hunt: Showdown 1896, Goat Simulator: Remastered, As Dusk Falls and Among Us. This is a date-stamped sample, not a permanent list. Games leave Game Pass, move between plans and may be unavailable in particular countries.
Xbox’s broader Game Pass catalog is useful for discovery, but a game appearing there does not prove that it can be streamed. Check its cloud label and your plan in the live catalog.

Yes, but only selected purchased games qualify. Buying any Xbox game does not automatically add it to Xbox Cloud Gaming. If a purchased title does not appear under the catalog’s Stream your own game area, it may not be supported, may not be available in your region or may require a different account or plan.
Use xbox.com/play to search for the title rather than assuming that digital ownership equals cloud access.
Supported platforms and devices
Xbox Cloud Gaming does not require an Xbox console. Xbox lists support across these categories, subject to device, software, region and account restrictions:

- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
- Windows PCs using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Safari.
- Android phones and tablets.
- iPhone and iPad through a supported browser.
- Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
- Selected Samsung Smart TVs and monitors.
- Selected LG TVs.
- Selected VIDAA OS televisions, including certain Hisense models.
- Selected Amazon Fire TV devices.
- Selected Meta Quest headsets.
- Supported handheld devices, depending on model and operating system.
Phones and tablets
Xbox’s current mobile guidance lists Android phones and tablets running Android 12 or later, and iPhone or iPad devices running iOS or iPadOS 14.4 or later. Those are published compatibility guidelines, not a guarantee of identical performance on every device. Xbox directs users to its mobile support information for the verified-device details.

Compatibility is model-specific, not brand-wide. Xbox’s TV page currently identifies:
- LG: selected models with webOS 24 or newer, with model and software limitations.
- Samsung: selected 2020-and-newer Smart TVs and selected 2022-and-newer monitors.
- VIDAA: selected devices running VIDAA OS 9.6 or higher.
- Amazon Fire TV: selected Fire TV Stick 4K Max first-generation, Fire TV Cube third-generation, Fire TV Stick 4K Max second-generation and Fire TV Stick 4K second-generation devices.
Check the Xbox TV compatibility page for your exact model, operating-system version and country before buying a television or streaming stick.
What you need to play
- A Microsoft account.
- A qualifying Game Pass plan, unless you are playing a supported free-to-play game.
- A supported device and supported region. Check Xbox’s region list.
- A compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB. Some games support touch input, but controller support is the dependable baseline.
- Microsoft Edge, Chrome or Safari for browser play.
- A stable internet connection. Xbox recommends at least 10 Mbps on mobile devices and 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs and tablets, with 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data for best results.
Look for the touch-control icon or Play with touch label on supported games. Do not assume that every game works with touch controls or keyboard and mouse. Keyboard-and-mouse support is title- and platform-dependent unless Xbox specifically identifies it.
How to start playing
- Confirm that Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in your country and on your device.
- Sign in at xbox.com/play with the correct Microsoft account.
- Confirm your Game Pass plan, or choose a supported free-to-play game.
- Connect a compatible controller, unless the selected game explicitly supports touch.
- Search for a title and verify its cloud, plan and region availability.
- Select Play or the streaming option and wait for the session to start.
Cloud gaming versus downloading
| Cloud streaming | Local download |
|---|---|
| Starts without a large game installation | Requires storage and download time |
| Works on more device types | Usually gives more consistent image quality and latency |
| Depends on connection quality and server availability | Can work offline after installation when the game supports it |
| May have streaming-specific limits on resolution, saves, accessories and peripherals | Usually offers broader local accessory and peripheral support |
| Requires cloud support for the specific title | Requires local support for the specific Xbox or PC platform |
Cloud gaming is most attractive when avoiding downloads, playing on a phone or TV, or using multiple devices matters more than maximum consistency and offline access.

Limitations to know before subscribing
- Latency: controller input and video travel over the network, so distance, congestion and Wi-Fi quality affect responsiveness.
- Image and audio limits: Xbox warns that streamed games may have limited video resolution and audio-output support.
- Queues: server capacity and demand can produce waits. Ultimate has Xbox’s shortest stated waits, but it does not guarantee an immediate session.
- Data use: streaming can consume substantial mobile or home-internet data.
- Cloud saves: Xbox identifies cloud-save-only storage as a possible limitation.
- Accessories: companion apps, peripherals and other accessories may have limited support.
- Catalog changes: games can leave Game Pass or become unavailable by plan, region or platform.
- Offline play: cloud games cannot be played without an internet connection.
Which Game Pass plan is best?
- Choose Essential if price is the priority and a smaller catalog is acceptable. Verify the long-term recurring price rather than treating the displayed first-month offer as the normal rate.
- Choose Premium if you want a larger cloud library and shorter waits than Essential but can wait for selected Xbox-published games rather than needing every major release on day one.
- Choose Ultimate if you want the broadest library, day-one releases, the highest stated cloud quality, the shortest stated waits and included EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics.
- Choose PC Game Pass for downloading and playing PC games locally. Do not choose it solely for cloud streaming based on the current official plan description.
Common problems and fixes
A Game Pass game appears but cannot be streamed
It may be PC-only, console-only, excluded from your plan, unavailable in your country, removed from the catalog or not yet reflected after an account or catalog refresh. Search the live cloud catalog rather than the general Game Pass page.
A purchased game is missing
Ownership alone is not enough. Confirm that the title is one of Xbox’s supported Stream your own game selections and that you are signed into the purchasing account.
The stream looks poor or the queue is long
Try 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet, move closer to the router, pause other heavy downloads, test another supported browser or device and check whether the problem is regional or service-wide. A faster connection cannot eliminate every server-capacity or latency problem.
Touch controls are unavailable
Only selected games support touch. Use a compatible controller unless the game card shows the touch icon or Play with touch.

Xbox Cloud Gaming or an Xbox console?
Cloud Gaming avoids the console’s upfront purchase and can work on hardware you already own. In exchange, you pay for a subscription for most games, need a strong connection, accept possible queues and streaming limitations, and do not automatically own the games in the catalog.
A console costs more initially but provides local installation, offline-capable play where supported, more predictable latency and broader accessory support. Cloud Gaming is the better fit for occasional players, people using phones or supported TVs, and anyone who wants to test the Xbox library without immediately buying a console. A console is the safer choice for frequent offline play, maximum consistency or a library built around owned games.
