Yes—Xbox Cloud Gaming supports mouse and keyboard, but only in selected games and with important client restrictions. The often-repeated “26 games” figure needs a date and source: Microsoft’s original March 26, 2024 Xbox Insider preview documented 14 supported games, while the current catalog is best checked game by game on Xbox.com.
Mouse-and-keyboard support is useful for PC players, strategy fans, accessibility-focused players, and anyone who wants to use Xbox Cloud Gaming without a controller. It is not, however, a universal setting that works with every cloud game or every device.

What launched on March 26, 2024?
Microsoft began previewing mouse-and-keyboard input for Xbox Cloud Gaming with Xbox Insiders on March 26, 2024. The initial PC access methods were Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and the Xbox app on Windows PCs. Browser users needed to enter fullscreen mode so the game could capture the mouse pointer correctly. The preview also included Alt+F9 as a shortcut for switching out of mouse-and-keyboard mode and returning to controller input.

This was a limited preview, not proof that every Xbox Cloud Gaming title supported PC controls. Support was enabled on a game-by-game basis.

So where did “26 games” come from?
The 26-game figure appears to refer to a later expansion or to a particular dated version of the story. It should not be presented as the permanent, independently verified current total without the specific list and date behind it.
The safest interpretation is that “26” was a catalog snapshot—not a guarantee that exactly 26 games support mouse and keyboard today. Counts can also become ambiguous when reports include browser-only titles, different editions, Insider-only availability, games with local console keyboard support but no equivalent cloud support, or titles whose Xbox.com capability labels changed later.

That is why the original 14-game preview list should not be silently merged with later additions. For a current check, open the individual game page on Xbox Cloud Gaming and look for a mouse-and-keyboard capability label.
Games currently showing mouse-and-keyboard support
Current Xbox.com cloud-game pages checked for this article show mouse-and-keyboard capability on examples including:
- Grounded, which also lists touch support and keyboard-only play among its capabilities.
- Halo Infinite, whose page identifies multiplayer as free to play.
- High on Life.
These examples demonstrate the current game-level approach, not a complete catalog. Look for wording such as “Play with mouse and keyboard” or “Console Keyboard & Mouse” on the title’s Xbox page before launching.

What you need
- A USB or Bluetooth keyboard.
- A USB or Bluetooth mouse.
- A compatible Windows PC if using the original supported PC route.
- Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or the supported Xbox app on Windows.
- A Microsoft account.
- A stable internet connection.
- Access to the game through an eligible Game Pass plan or a qualifying purchase.
Current Xbox game pages show cloud-play signals associated with Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, but requirements vary by title, region, plan, and ownership. Some games may require a separate purchase. Check the game page and the current Game Pass information rather than assuming Ultimate is always required.
Hardware cannot add mouse support to an unsupported game. A basic wired keyboard and mouse are often the simplest troubleshooting baseline; expensive high-polling-rate gaming peripherals cannot remove cloud-stream latency.
How to use mouse and keyboard in Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Connect the keyboard and mouse before starting the cloud session.
- Open Xbox Cloud Gaming or the supported Xbox app on a Windows PC.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has access to the game.
- Choose a title whose page explicitly shows mouse-and-keyboard support.
- If using a browser, enter fullscreen mode.
- Start the game, then click inside the stream or press a key when prompted.
- Wait briefly for the game interface to change from controller prompts to keyboard-and-mouse prompts.
- Where supported, press Alt+F9 to leave mouse-and-keyboard mode and return to controller input.
Microsoft can change interface labels and subscription requirements, so the wording in the current Xbox game page takes priority over an old list or screenshot.
Troubleshooting
The game still shows controller prompts
- Move the mouse or press a key after the stream begins.
- Wait several seconds for the game to detect the input.
- Confirm that the title currently lists mouse-and-keyboard support.
- Reload the session after connecting the peripherals.
- Use browser fullscreen mode.
The pointer moves the browser instead of the game
- Enter fullscreen mode.
- Click inside the game stream to focus it.
- Check whether pointer capture has activated.
- Try the Windows Xbox app if the browser path continues to fail.
The keyboard works but the mouse does not
- Test a wired mouse.
- Disconnect other pointing devices.
- Check Bluetooth pairing and Windows permissions.
- Reload the cloud session after connecting the mouse.
- Try Edge and Chrome separately.
The game accepts neither keyboard nor mouse
Verify the title’s current cloud capability label and confirm that you are using a supported client. Do not confuse keyboard-and-mouse support in the installed Xbox or PC version with support in the streamed version. Try another confirmed title to determine whether the issue is game-specific.

The option is unavailable on the account
The first rollout was for Xbox Insiders. If you are checking an older report, its access rules may describe a preview channel rather than the normal public service. Also check the region, Microsoft account, app version, and client. A VPN is not a reliable fix: it can increase latency, violate service terms, and does not prove that the account is officially supported.

It depends on the game and the connection. Mouse input can feel more precise in supported shooters, while a keyboard is often more natural for strategy and tactics games. It also makes text entry and menu navigation easier and lets PC players use hardware they already own.
The trade-off is cloud latency. Even with excellent peripherals, streamed mouse aiming may feel less responsive than a locally installed PC game. Sensitivity, acceleration, remapping, prompts, and mixed-input behavior are also game-specific. A controller remains the better choice when a title lacks support, when playing on a TV or mobile client, or when analog movement and vibration matter.

Accessibility considerations
Keyboard and mouse can make some games more accessible for players who cannot comfortably use a standard controller, but support is not automatically a complete accessibility solution. Check whether the title offers keyboard-only play, mouse-only play, remapping, toggle controls, or other relevant options. A cloud client may not expose every accessibility setting available in an installed version.
For example, Grounded lists keyboard-only play among its Xbox capabilities. That does not guarantee that every cloud client provides identical controls or accessibility behavior.
Bottom line
Xbox Cloud Gaming does support mouse and keyboard, but only in selected games and with client-specific limitations. The original March 2024 preview covered 14 documented titles for Xbox Insiders on Windows browsers and the Windows Xbox app—not a universal 26-game catalog. The “26 games” claim should therefore be treated as a dated snapshot unless its complete list is verified. For the most reliable answer today, check the individual Xbox Cloud Gaming page for the game you want to play.
