Xbox Cloud Gaming officially supports mouse and keyboard input, but not across its entire library or on every device. Microsoft introduced browser support in May 2024, and Xbox reported more than 190 supported cloud games as of April 30, 2026. The best-supported setup is a Windows PC using Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, with a wired USB keyboard and mouse.
When did Xbox Cloud Gaming add mouse and keyboard?
Microsoft announced mouse-and-keyboard controls for Xbox Cloud Gaming in its May 2024 Xbox update. The initial browser rollout covered Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, while selected games were also due to receive support in the Xbox PC app.

This is not a brand-new 2026 feature. It has expanded over time: Xbox reported more than 130 supported cloud games on February 25, 2026, and more than 190 on April 30, 2026. Those figures are dated snapshots, not a permanent total; the catalog and supported features can change.

Does every cloud game support mouse and keyboard?
No. Support is enabled on a game-by-game basis. A game having mouse-and-keyboard controls in its native PC version does not prove that its cloud version supports them. Xbox Cloud Gaming may be streaming a console version or a separately configured cloud build.

Open the Xbox Cloud Gaming library, select the game, and check its product page or game card for the mouse-and-keyboard indicator or control information. Also confirm that the title is cloud-playable in your region and under your plan. Avoid relying on a static “complete list,” because availability changes.
Xbox’s April 30 update named these newly added examples: Amazing Maze, Dragonkin: The Banished, Easy Delivery Co., Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf, Super Meat Boy 3D, and Sword and Fairy Together Forever. These examples are dated to that announcement and should not be treated as proof of identical support on every platform.
How to use mouse and keyboard on Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Connect your keyboard and mouse to a Windows PC. Wired USB devices are the clearest baseline.
- Open Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
- Go to xbox.com/play and sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your subscription.
- Choose a game that specifically indicates mouse-and-keyboard support.
- Start the stream and click inside the game window if the keyboard or mouse is not immediately captured.
- Test movement, camera control, menus, and any available key-binding settings.
A supported title should respond directly to keyboard keys and mouse movement instead of requiring a controller. Some games may still display controller-oriented prompts or overlays, because the interface has not been completely adapted to mouse-and-keyboard input.

What you need
Subscription or eligible free-to-play game
Xbox currently lists cloud gaming as a benefit of Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Selected free-to-play games, including Fortnite, can be streamed with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. Select games that you own can also be streamed, but ownership alone is not enough: the title must be eligible for cloud streaming and available in your region and plan context. Do not assume that every Game Pass title is cloud-playable, or that a subscription tier guarantees mouse-and-keyboard controls for every cloud game. Plan benefits and availability can change.
Compatible hardware and connection
- A compatible Windows PC is the simplest starting point.
- Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome is the recommended browser baseline for mouse-and-keyboard cloud play.
- A wired USB keyboard and mouse provide the most straightforward setup. Bluetooth and other wireless combinations may work, but behavior depends on the host device, operating system, browser, receiver, and game.
- Xbox lists 10 Mbps as a minimum connection speed, with 20 Mbps recommended for some devices and better quality. A 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection is recommended where available.
Streaming also adds network-dependent latency. Mouse support does not make cloud gaming feel identical to a locally installed PC game, particularly in competitive shooters where small delays are more noticeable.

Does it work on consoles, phones, TVs, and handhelds?

In short, a device being able to run Xbox Cloud Gaming does not guarantee that it will capture keyboard and mouse input in the same way as a Windows browser.
Troubleshooting mouse-and-keyboard input
If the controls do not work, use this diagnostic order:
- Confirm that the specific game, not merely its PC version, supports mouse and keyboard.
- Test the keyboard and mouse outside the stream.
- For a baseline test, use Edge or Chrome on a Windows PC.
- Disconnect a controller temporarily. Some games switch to controller-priority input when one is detected.
- Click the stream to give it focus.
- Reload the game or restart the browser.
- Try a wired USB keyboard and mouse instead of Bluetooth or another wireless setup.
- Check the game’s input and key-binding settings.
- Try another title that is confirmed to support the feature.
- Avoid unofficial input-remapping extensions until official support has been ruled out.
If the mouse moves the browser cursor but not the camera, the stream may not have captured mouse input, the game may not support mouse controls, or the browser/device may not expose the required behavior. If the keyboard works in menus but not during gameplay, that can indicate partial support, a focus problem, controller-priority behavior, or a title-specific implementation issue.

Official support versus remapping tools
Third-party browser extensions and input remappers are not equivalent to Microsoft’s native support. They can add latency, break after website changes, behave inconsistently across devices, or conflict with a game or service’s rules. Use a game’s official mouse-and-keyboard indicator as the first choice rather than trying to force support where it is absent.
Is cloud gaming a substitute for a gaming PC?
It can be a practical option, but only for the right use case.

- Already own a laptop or desktop and do not want to download or install large games.
- Want to play a supported shooter, strategy game, simulation, or other title that benefits from precise pointing and many keys.
- Have a stable, low-latency connection.
- Accept streamed image quality and changing catalog availability.
A local PC remains better when you need:
- Guaranteed mouse-and-keyboard support across PC games.
- Mods, advanced graphics settings, PC-specific features, or unusual peripherals.
- The lowest possible input latency for competitive play.
- Control over installation, patches, resolution, and performance.
Cloud gaming avoids downloads and works on lower-powered hardware, but it does not turn a console cloud build into a full native PC port. The game’s supported controls, graphics options, and peripheral features remain limited by the streamed version.

What should you buy?
You do not need an expensive esports setup. A basic wired USB keyboard and mouse are the most defensible starting point because they reduce pairing and driver variables. Check whether your device has USB-A or USB-C ports; a compatible hub or adapter may be needed for a Steam Deck, tablet, phone, or USB-C-only laptop.
A controller remains the broad-compatibility fallback for unsupported games and uncertain TV, mobile, and console setups. It is not required for a cloud game that officially supports mouse and keyboard. Avoid buying premium wireless RGB peripherals solely to improve cloud performance: they cannot remove network latency.
