Xbox’s announced monthly allowances start in November: 15 hours on Game Pass Ultimate, 10 on Premium, and 5 on Essential. GeForce NOW’s Performance and Ultimate memberships include 100 hours per month, with up to 15 unused hours rolling over. Those are monthly allowances, not a comparison of individual session lengths. The better fit depends on your games, ownership or subscription entitlements, region, and likely playtime.
At a glance: what each service is for
| Decision | Xbox Cloud Gaming | GeForce NOW |
|---|---|---|
| What you stream | Eligible Xbox Game Pass games, select free-to-play games, and selected games you own or buy. | Supported PC games from connected storefronts, including selected Xbox PC Game Pass and Microsoft Store titles. You generally need the game entitlement; supported free-to-play games are an exception. |
| Monthly playtime | Starting November 2026, Xbox announced 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. | Performance and Ultimate include 100 hours per month, with up to 15 unused hours rolling over. |
| What happens at the allowance | Xbox says subscribers will be able to purchase additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store; prices and detailed options had not been announced as of October 4, 2026. | Members can buy additional premium playtime or continue with the basic free-user experience until the monthly reset. |
| Best starting question | Are the games you want in the eligible Xbox cloud catalog, and does your plan include enough monthly hours? | Do you own the PC editions you want, or have an eligible subscription, and are those specific titles supported in your region? |
The catalog counts are not directly comparable: Xbox emphasizes eligible console/Game Pass access, while GeForce NOW reports a changing library of more than 4,500 PC games. Neither total means every game is available to every user in every country, and GeForce NOW membership does not generally include the purchase price of paid games. Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW both direct players to service information and live availability.

Monthly hours are not the same as a session timer
Xbox’s announced monthly limits begin in November 2026
Xbox announced that, beginning in November 2026, Game Pass Ultimate will include 15 cloud gaming hours per month, Premium 10, and Essential 5. Xbox says eligible Game Pass subscribers can stream without these monthly hour limits until the change takes effect. The announcement describes a monthly total, not a maximum length for one uninterrupted session. It also says additional hours will be purchasable through the Xbox Store, but prices, exact purchase options, and market availability had not been detailed as of October 4, 2026. See Xbox’s September 3, 2026 announcement for the announced terms.

That is the company’s expectation, not an independently verified usage measurement. Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief Joe Skrebels said the company recognized that “introducing limits is a meaningful change, particularly for players who regularly spend more time gaming through the cloud.”

GeForce NOW’s paid-tier allowance is 100 hours monthly
NVIDIA currently lists 100 hours per month for Performance and Ultimate memberships, with up to 15 unused hours rolling over. The allowance follows the account’s monthly billing reset. After reaching it, members can purchase additional premium hours or continue with the basic free-user experience until reset. Legacy Founders accounts and grandfathered terms may differ, so check the terms for your own membership. These figures are monthly playtime, not individual session lengths. NVIDIA’s current membership details are in its GeForce NOW FAQ.
Exact individual session lengths need a current local check
The official pages consulted establish monthly allowances but do not provide a reliable, complete current table of individual session lengths for every GeForce NOW tier. Xbox’s November announcement likewise does not establish a per-session timer. If uninterrupted session length is decisive, verify the current terms for your country and plan rather than relying on older tier charts.

How the game libraries and entitlements differ
Xbox Cloud Gaming is tied to eligible Xbox cloud titles
Xbox offers cloud access to most titles in the Game Pass library and select free-to-play titles, with availability dependent on region, plan, platform, and time. Some games users own or buy outside Game Pass are also cloud-playable. Xbox says it will add support from November for streaming eligible owned games without requiring Game Pass; the detailed game list and market availability were still forthcoming as of October 4, 2026. Check the Xbox cloud gaming page for the live catalog and applicable requirements.

GeForce NOW’s library includes Ready-to-Play games available to launch directly and Install-to-Play titles that premium members can install when the publisher has opted the Steam title into Steam Cloud Gaming. NVIDIA reports more than 4,500 games in its changing cloud library, but support and availability can vary by title and country. For paid games, you generally need to own or purchase the PC title through a supported store; membership is not a substitute for that entitlement. The service also supports a catalog of free-to-play games. NVIDIA explains the access model in its FAQ and maintains a game list.

Some Xbox PC games work on GeForce NOW, but not all Xbox games
An active Xbox PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscription can provide access on GeForce NOW to supported PC titles that have been released on the service. Supported individual Microsoft Store PC purchases can also work. NVIDIA onboards and tests titles individually, so a game’s PC release must be supported on GeForce NOW; Xbox console-cloud availability does not automatically carry over. PC Game Pass coverage and store entitlements can also vary by country. See NVIDIA’s Xbox PC Game Pass and Microsoft Store FAQ for the integration details.
Check your actual games before choosing
- Write down three to five specific games you expect to play.
- Check whether the exact edition is in the live cloud catalog for your country.
- Confirm you have the required entitlement: the right Game Pass plan, supported PC-store ownership, or a free-to-play account where applicable.
- Check account-linking, device, controller, and peripheral requirements for those titles.
This avoids choosing based on a headline catalog total that may include games you cannot access or do not want to play.

Pricing: what is established and what is still pending
Xbox’s added-hour pricing was not yet published
As of October 4, 2026, Xbox had not published the price of extra cloud hours or the detailed purchase options for the November change. The company said it would share prices and further details before the changes take effect. Do not infer an hourly rate from a Game Pass subscription fee: the new extra-time terms are separate details still to be announced. Xbox’s plans and offers can also vary by market and may include promotions; check the local page for current recurring-billing terms. Xbox Cloud Gaming

Compare your real monthly cost
Start with subscriptions you already pay for and games you already own. Then account for expected streaming hours, any extra-time purchases, and optional hardware. A service’s catalog access can be inexpensive for one player and poor value for another if it requires buying several PC games or adding hours. For a fair comparison, use the same country and billing period, and record the date you checked the price.
Devices, connection, and controllers
Xbox Cloud Gaming setup
Xbox lists support for Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select LG, Samsung, and VIDAA smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, selected Meta Quest headsets, and other devices. A supported region and device are required. Xbox gives 10 Mbps as a mobile minimum, says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi; actual results depend on the connection, location, and device. See the Xbox service page for supported-device details.
Console cloud games generally require a compatible controller connected over Bluetooth or USB, although selected games offer touch controls. A mobile gaming controller can be useful but is optional; verify phone fit, connection type, and game compatibility before buying. Xbox’s accessory information includes mobile controller options, including Backbone One examples.
Recommended Free Tools
GeForce NOW connection requirements depend on output
NVIDIA recommends connection speeds tied to the selected output mode, including 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 fps and 45 Mbps for up to 4K at 120 fps; higher-frame-rate or Cinematic Quality modes call for higher rates. It recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are recommendations for particular targets, not guarantees of stable performance on a given home network. Consult NVIDIA’s system and network requirements for your device and stream settings.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming if the games you want are in its eligible Xbox catalog, you value access through a Game Pass plan, and the announced monthly allowance suits your playtime—or you are willing to assess extra-hour pricing when it is published.
- Choose GeForce NOW if your key games are supported PC titles and you already own them or have the relevant PC subscription entitlement, and 100 monthly hours on Performance or Ultimate better matches your likely use.
- Consider both if your library is split between eligible Xbox console-cloud games and supported PC titles. The services do not provide interchangeable access to every game, even when a title or franchise appears on both platforms.
For either service, make the decision from the live availability of your exact games, your local membership terms, and your expected monthly hours—not from total library counts alone.
