It added a dedicated Store tab to the Xbox mobile app, improved game and add-on discovery, and delivered new Bluetooth Low Energy Audio capabilities through firmware for the latest Xbox Wireless Headset—the model launched in October 2024.
The audio features are not universal. The headset must be the newer model, while compatible Windows 11 hardware, drivers, and—in some cases—Windows Insider access are also required.

What the December 2025 Xbox update includes
- A dedicated Store tab in the Xbox mobile app.
- Mobile discovery for games, add-ons, wishlists, purchases, and Game Pass.
- Firmware support for Bluetooth LE Audio on the October 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset.
- Microsoft-claimed improvements including lower latency and better battery efficiency.
- Super-wideband stereo voice on supported Windows 11 systems.
- Shared or broadcast audio in preview for Windows Insiders on select PCs.
- Expanded touch-control and mouse-and-keyboard support for Xbox cloud gaming.
Microsoft’s official announcement was published on December 16, 2025. Any current availability can vary from that original rollout because app interfaces, regional support, drivers, and Insider features may change.
What changed in the Xbox mobile app?
The Xbox mobile app gained a dedicated Store tab for browsing the Xbox catalog from an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Users can search for games and add-ons, manage wishlists, purchase eligible content, and join Xbox Game Pass from the app.

- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Game and add-on purchases, along with Game Pass enrollment, had already been introduced earlier in 2025. The December change primarily made those capabilities easier to find by bringing them together in a dedicated storefront area.
How to find it
- Update the Xbox app through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used for Xbox purchases.
- Open the app and look for the Store tab.
- Search for a game or add-on, or browse the catalog.
- Add eligible items to a wishlist or complete a purchase.
Microsoft has not specified one universal minimum app version or navigation path for every platform. The tab’s visibility may vary by app version, country, account, store region, and later interface changes. Purchases also remain subject to regional catalogs, payment methods, taxes, account restrictions, and platform policies.
What changed for the Xbox Wireless Headset?
The firmware update applies specifically to the latest Xbox Wireless Headset, the model Microsoft announced in October 2024. It should not be assumed that the original 2021 Xbox Wireless Headset, another Xbox-branded headset, or a generic Bluetooth headset receives the same features.

After the firmware update, the headset can use Bluetooth Low Energy Audio with compatible Windows 11 devices. Microsoft says this newer Bluetooth audio architecture can provide lower latency, improved power efficiency, and richer voice communication compared with Bluetooth Classic audio.

Those are platform-level claims, not guaranteed measurements. Microsoft did not publish a universal latency reduction or a specific number of additional battery hours in the December announcement. Results can depend on the PC’s Bluetooth hardware, Windows build, manufacturer drivers, game, and audio configuration.
Super-wideband stereo voice
The update also adds super-wideband stereo voice on supported Windows 11 systems. Microsoft describes this as improving the quality of both game audio and voice chat.
For this feature, the requirements are particularly important:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Windows 11 version 24H2 or later.
- A PC with compatible Bluetooth LE Audio hardware.
- Compatible audio drivers supplied by the PC manufacturer.
Having Windows 11 alone is not enough. A computer may still lack the feature if its Bluetooth adapter, firmware, drivers, or specific device configuration does not support it. Microsoft also said support was coming to the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X at the time of the December announcement; that was a future-status statement and should not be treated as a current availability guarantee.

Shared or broadcast audio
Microsoft described shared audio as a way to send game audio to multiple compatible Bluetooth accessories. In the original rollout, it was a preview feature for Windows Insiders on select Windows 11 PCs.
That makes it different from a standard, universally available Xbox console feature. Its availability depends on Insider participation, supported PC hardware, and Microsoft’s rollout status.
Compatibility checklist
| Feature | What is required | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile Store tab | Current Xbox mobile app on iPhone, iPad, or Android | Availability can vary by app version, region, and account |
| Mobile purchases | Xbox app and an eligible Microsoft account | Catalog, payment, tax, and regional rules apply |
| Headset firmware | October 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset | Older headset models should not be assumed compatible |
| Bluetooth LE Audio | Supported Windows 11 device and compatible headset firmware | The headset alone is not sufficient |
| Super-wideband stereo voice | Windows 11 24H2 or later and compatible manufacturer drivers | Not guaranteed on every Windows 11 PC |
| Shared audio | Select Windows 11 PCs | Announced as a Windows Insider preview |
| Touch controls | Supported Xbox cloud game and compatible client | Layouts vary by game |
| Mouse and keyboard | Supported cloud game, device, and browser or app environment | Not every cloud title supports the input method |
How to install the headset firmware update
- Connect the October 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset.
- Open the Xbox Accessories app on an Xbox console or Windows 11 PC.
- Check for an available firmware update and install it.
- On Windows, confirm that the PC supports Bluetooth LE Audio.
- For super-wideband stereo voice, verify Windows 11 24H2 or later and compatible manufacturer audio drivers.
The official announcement identifies the Xbox Accessories app as the update route but does not provide a complete troubleshooting procedure. If the update does not appear, practical steps include checking the headset model, updating the Xbox Accessories app, installing pending Xbox or Windows updates, reconnecting the headset, restarting the console or PC, and trying the other supported platform. Do not interrupt power during a firmware installation. If the update fails, consult Microsoft’s current Xbox Accessories support documentation.

Cloud gaming additions
The December announcement also included input improvements for Xbox cloud gaming. Microsoft listed more than 130 cloud games with mouse-and-keyboard support and more than 230 games with touch controls. These were Microsoft’s counts at the time of the announcement, not permanent totals.

Brotato was added to the touch-control lineup. Support remains title-specific and depends on the device and Xbox cloud gaming environment being used.

Mobile Xbox users
The Store tab is a useful organization and discovery improvement if you browse Xbox games from a phone or tablet. It does not change console performance or make every regional game and add-on catalog universally available.
Owners of the October 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset
Installing the firmware is worthwhile if you use the headset with a compatible Windows 11 PC, particularly for wireless PC gaming or voice chat. The potential benefits are less relevant to someone who uses the headset only with an Xbox console and does not need Windows Bluetooth features.
Windows 11 PC gamers
The update is most compelling for PC users whose computers support Bluetooth LE Audio and have current manufacturer drivers. Users with older Bluetooth hardware, an incompatible adapter, or an unsupported Windows build should not expect the new audio modes to appear automatically.

Console-only players
The mobile Store improvements still apply, but the LE Audio portion is mainly a headset-and-Windows compatibility story. It should not be interpreted as turning an Xbox console into a general-purpose Bluetooth audio transmitter.
Prospective headset buyers
The Xbox Wireless Headset is a better fit for buyers who want Xbox Wireless connectivity, Windows use, and an upgradeable firmware feature set. It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs guaranteed compatibility with every phone, television, console, or non-Xbox platform. Before buying, verify the current product specifications and whether the intended Windows PC supports Bluetooth LE Audio.
Microsoft’s official headset information is available through the Xbox Wireless Headset product page. No current price is included here because pricing and regional availability change.
Bottom line
The December 2025 Xbox update was a broad ecosystem update rather than a single console dashboard overhaul. The mobile Store tab makes browsing, wishlists, add-ons, purchases, and Game Pass easier to access. The headset firmware update is potentially more significant, but only for owners of the October 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset with compatible Windows 11 hardware and drivers.
Most importantly, do not confuse Microsoft’s claims of lower latency and better battery efficiency with guaranteed numerical improvements. Treat shared audio as a preview feature in the original rollout, and check current app, Windows, driver, and regional availability before assuming every advertised feature is active.
